Telangana Becomes 5th State as Governor Clears Gig Workers Welfare Bill

హైదరాబాద్లో గిగ్ వర్కర్ల సంక్షేమానికి కీలకమైన చట్టానికి మార్గం సుగమమైంది. తెలంగాణ గవర్నర్ శివప్రతాప్ శుక్ల గిగ్ వర్కర్ల సంక్షేమ బిల్లుకు ఆమోదం తెలపడంతో రాష్ట్రం ఈ తరహా చట్టాన్ని అమలు చేస్తున్న ఐదవ రాష్ట్రంగా నిలిచింది.
ఈ చట్టం ద్వారా గిగ్ వర్కర్లకు సామాజిక భద్రత కల్పించడమే లక్ష్యంగా ప్రభుత్వం ముందుకు వచ్చింది. డెలివరీ బాయ్స్, క్యాబ్ డ్రైవర్లు, ప్లాట్ఫామ్ ఆధారిత కార్మికుల కోసం ప్రత్యేక సంక్షేమ బోర్డును ఏర్పాటు చేయనున్నారు. ఈ బోర్డు ద్వారా వర్కర్ల నమోదు, యూనిక్ ఐడీ జారీ, సంక్షేమ పథకాల అమలు జరుగుతుంది.
ఈ బిల్లులో మహిళలు, వికలాంగులకు ప్రాతినిధ్యం కల్పించడంపై ప్రత్యేక దృష్టి పెట్టారు. అదేవిధంగా గిగ్ ప్లాట్ఫార్మ్ కంపెనీలు తమ లావాదేవీలపై 1 నుండి 2 శాతం వరకు రాష్ట్ర సంక్షేమ నిధికి చెల్లించాల్సి ఉంటుంది. ఈ నిధి ద్వారా ఇన్సూరెన్స్, ప్రమాద భీమా, పెన్షన్, ప్రసూతి సాయం వంటి ప్రయోజనాలు అందించనున్నారు.
ఈ చట్టం ద్వారా తెలంగాణలో సుమారు లక్షల సంఖ్యలో గిగ్ వర్కర్లకు రక్షణ కల్పించబడనుంది. డిజిటల్ ఆర్థిక వ్యవస్థలో కీలక పాత్ర పోషిస్తున్న ఈ వర్గానికి ఇది ఒక పెద్ద ఊరటనిచ్చే నిర్ణయంగా భావిస్తున్నారు.

A major step toward labour welfare in Telangana has been achieved as Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla has approved the Gig Workers Welfare Bill, making the state the fifth in India to implement such legislation.
The law aims to provide social security and welfare benefits to gig workers, including delivery personnel, cab drivers, and other platform-based workers. A dedicated welfare board will be established to register workers, issue unique identification numbers, and ensure access to government schemes.
The Bill also emphasizes inclusivity by ensuring representation for women and persons with disabilities. In a significant move, aggregator companies such as ride-hailing and delivery platforms will be required to contribute 1–2% of their transaction value to a state-managed welfare fund.
This fund will be used to provide key benefits such as insurance coverage, accident compensation, pensions, and maternity support. The legislation is expected to benefit lakhs of gig workers across Telangana, offering them long-awaited social protection in the rapidly expanding digital economy.
