Hyderabad H-FAST Crackdown: 36 Tonnes of Adulterated Ghee Seized

తక్కువ ఖర్చుతో ప్రత్యామ్నాయ పదార్థాలను ఉపయోగించి నెయ్యిని తయారు చేసి, అసలైన నెయ్యిగా అధిక ధరకు విక్రయించడం ద్వారా అక్రమ లాభాలు ఆర్జిస్తున్నట్లు అధికారులు తెలిపారు. అనధికారిక నూనెలు, రసాయన పదార్థాలతో కల్తీ చేసిన నెయ్యి వినియోగం ఆరోగ్యానికి హాని కలిగించే అవకాశం ఉందని, ముఖ్యంగా గుండె, జీర్ణవ్యవస్థ, కాలేయం, మూత్రపిండాలకు సంబంధించిన సమస్యల ముప్పు పెరిగే అవకాశం ఉందని హెచ్చరించారు.
వినియోగదారులు నెయ్యి, ఇతర పాల ఉత్పత్తులను గుర్తింపు పొందిన, లైసెన్స్ కలిగిన విక్రయదారుల వద్ద మాత్రమే కొనుగోలు చేయాలని అధికారులు సూచించారు. ఉత్పత్తిపై ఉన్న FSSAI లైసెన్స్ వివరాలు, తయారీదారు సమాచారం, బ్యాచ్ నంబర్, తయారీ తేదీ, గడువు తేదీలను తప్పనిసరిగా పరిశీలించాలని తెలిపారు.

Hyderabad’s H-FAST has launched a major enforcement drive against illegal adulterated ghee manufacturing and trading units, inspecting 130 establishments across the city and seizing nearly 36 tonnes of adulterated ghee and raw materials.
The Hyderabad Food Adulteration Surveillance Team (H-FAST) of the Commissioner’s Task Force, in coordination with the Food Safety Department, conducted special inspections at 130 establishments, including 39 manufacturing units and 91 selling outlets.
Officials detected adulteration using palm oil, vanaspathi, skimmed milk powder, starch and artificial ghee flavours. The products were allegedly marketed as genuine ghee under labels such as “100% Pure Ghee”, “Premium Ghee”, “Farm Fresh Ghee” and “Natural Ghee”.
The seized material included 25.5 tonnes of adulterated ghee, 8.7 tonnes of cream, 1,200 litres of palm oil, 600 litres of vanaspathi, artificial ghee flavours and 30 kg of starch. Statutory samples were collected for laboratory analysis, while the seized material was handed over to Food Safety Authorities for further legal action.
Investigations found adulteration levels ranging from 10% to 40%. The adulterated ghee was reportedly supplied to restaurants, tiffin centres, sweet manufacturers, bakeries, caterers, dairy shops and Ayurvedic shops. It was also being sold for use as pooja and deepam ghee.
According to officials, substitute ingredients were used to manufacture the products at a lower cost, after which they were sold as genuine ghee for higher profits. Officials warned that unauthorised oils and chemical additives used in adulterated ghee could pose health risks, including possible complications affecting the cardiovascular, digestive, liver and kidney systems.
Consumers have been advised to buy dairy products only from reputed and licensed vendors and to verify the FSSAI licence, manufacturer details, batch number, manufacturing date and expiry date before purchase.
Citizens can report suspected food adulteration or unhygienic food preparation by calling Dial 112 or the H-FAST helpline at 8712661212. Officials said the identity of informants would be kept confidential.
The enforcement operation was conducted by H-FAST Inspectors N. Ranjith Kumar Goud and M. Anjaiah, along with SIs Ramya, Abhilash, Shankar, Krishna and Akhil, under the leadership of Gaikwad Vaibhav Raghunath, IPS, DCP, Task Force, Hyderabad City.
