The Telangana High Court directed civic authorities and Hyderabad police to immediately remove encroachments from footpaths and roads across Hyderabad and Secunderabad, stressing the importance of pedestrian safety in the twin cities.
The order was issued during the hearing of a petition filed by senior citizens highlighting the growing difficulties faced by pedestrians due to illegal occupations on pavements and public walkways.
According to court proceedings, Justice NV Shravan Kumar instructed the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and police departments to jointly conduct anti-encroachment drives and ensure that footpaths remain accessible to the public.
The High Court also emphasized strict action against illegal parking and unauthorized commercial activities operating on pavements. The court observed that blocked footpaths are forcing pedestrians to walk on busy roads, increasing the risk of accidents and public inconvenience.
Authorities were directed to submit a status report detailing the action taken before the next hearing. The order is expected to intensify enforcement drives against encroachments across Hyderabad and Secunderabad.
