Revanth Reddy Urges Centre to Secure Maharashtra Nod for Raising Tummidihetti Barrage Height

ఢిల్లీ: తెలంగాణ ముఖ్యమంత్రి రేవంత్ రెడ్డి కేంద్ర జల్ శక్తి మంత్రి సి.ఆర్. పాటిల్తో సమావేశమై ప్రాణహిత నదిపై ప్రతిపాదిత తుమ్మిడిహెట్టి బ్యారేజీ ఎత్తు పెంపునకు మహారాష్ట్ర ప్రభుత్వ అనుమతి తీసుకురావాలని విజ్ఞప్తి చేశారు. ఈ సమావేశంలో రాష్ట్ర నీటి పారుదల శాఖ మంత్రి ఉత్తమ్ కుమార్ రెడ్డి కూడా పాల్గొన్నారు.
ముఖ్యమంత్రి తెలిపిన వివరాల ప్రకారం, గతంలో తుమ్మిడిహెట్టి వద్ద 148 మీటర్ల ఎత్తుతో బ్యారేజీ నిర్మాణానికి రెండు రాష్ట్రాల మధ్య ఒప్పందం కుదిరింది. అయితే గ్రావిటీ ద్వారా నీటి సరఫరా సమర్థవంతంగా జరగాలంటే బ్యారేజీ ఎత్తును 150 నుంచి 152 మీటర్ల వరకు పెంచాల్సిన అవసరం ఉందని వివరించారు.
పుణెలోని సెంట్రల్ వాటర్ అండ్ పవర్ రీసెర్చ్ సెంటర్ (CWPRS) నిర్వహించిన అధ్యయనం ప్రకారం 148 మీటర్లు, 152 మీటర్ల ఎత్తుల్లో బ్యారేజీ నిర్మించినా ముంపు ప్రభావంలో పెద్దగా తేడా లేదని ముఖ్యమంత్రి తెలిపారు. ముంపులో సుమారు 50 శాతం నదీ గర్భంలోనే ఉంటుందని పేర్కొన్నారు.
బ్యారేజీ ఎత్తు పెరిగితే గ్రావిటీ ద్వారా నీటి సరఫరా సాధ్యమవుతుందని, దీంతో విద్యుత్ వినియోగ వ్యయం గణనీయంగా తగ్గుతుందని ముఖ్యమంత్రి వివరించారు. ఈ అంశంపై తెలంగాణ, మహారాష్ట్ర రాష్ట్రాల మధ్య త్వరలోనే సమావేశం ఏర్పాటు చేయాలని కేంద్ర మంత్రిని కోరారు.
ఈ ప్రాజెక్టు పూర్తయితే వెనుకబడిన ఉమ్మడి ఆదిలాబాద్ జిల్లాకు సాగునీటి సౌకర్యం కల్పించడంతో పాటు వ్యవసాయాభివృద్ధికి దోహదపడుతుందని ముఖ్యమంత్రి తెలిపారు.
దీనిపై స్పందించిన కేంద్ర జల్ శక్తి మంత్రి సి.ఆర్. పాటిల్, ప్రధానమంత్రి కార్యాలయం నుంచి ఈ అంశంపై లేఖ అందిందని తెలిపారు. ముందుగా కేంద్ర జల సంఘం (CWC) ఆధ్వర్యంలో తెలంగాణ, మహారాష్ట్ర అధికారులతో సమావేశం నిర్వహించి చర్చలు ప్రారంభిస్తామని, అనంతరం ఇరు రాష్ట్రాల నీటి పారుదల మంత్రులతో సమావేశం ఏర్పాటు చేస్తామని చెప్పారు.
ఈ సమావేశంలో పలువురు తెలంగాణ ఎంపీలు, ఢిల్లీలో రాష్ట్ర ప్రభుత్వ ప్రత్యేక ప్రతినిధి, నీటి పారుదల శాఖ ఉన్నతాధికారులు పాల్గొన్నారు.

New Delhi: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy requested Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil to facilitate Maharashtra’s approval for increasing the height of the proposed Tummidihetti Barrage on the Pranahita River. Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy also attended the meeting.
The Chief Minister recalled that Telangana and Maharashtra had earlier agreed to construct the barrage at 148 metres. However, he said the height should be increased to 150–152 metres to enable gravity-based water supply, which would improve irrigation efficiency.
He informed the Union Minister that a study conducted by the Central Water and Power Research Station (CWPRS), Pune, found no significant difference in the submergence area between a 148-metre and a 152-metre barrage. According to the study, nearly 50 percent of the submergence would remain within the riverbed.
Revanth Reddy explained that a higher barrage would allow gravity flow, reducing dependence on pumping and lowering electricity costs. He urged the Centre to convene a meeting between Telangana and Maharashtra at the earliest to resolve the issue.
The Chief Minister said completion of the project would significantly improve irrigation facilities in the erstwhile Adilabad district, benefiting farmers in the region.
Responding to the request, Union Minister C.R. Patil said the Prime Minister’s Office had forwarded the matter to the Jal Shakti Ministry. He announced that the Central Water Commission (CWC) would first hold discussions with officials from both states, followed by a meeting of the irrigation ministers of Telangana and Maharashtra.
