Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s scheduled visit to the United States has been cancelled after the Ministry of External Affairs denied permission, citing a lack of political clearance. Reddy will continue his engagements in the United Kingdom and return to Hyderabad from London on August 23 instead of proceeding to Boston.
The Telangana government had sought Central approval for the Chief Minister-led delegation’s visit to both the UK and the US in accordance with official procedures and protocol. While the UK leg was approved, the Centre communicated its decision to deny permission for the US visit after the delegation had already reached the UK.
The proposed US visit was aimed at exploring partnerships with leading global educational institutions and bringing opportunities in education, skills and training to Telangana and Hyderabad. The Chief Minister said the objective was to strengthen Hyderabad’s position as a global knowledge hub and contribute to the state’s development and the broader Viksit Bharat vision.
Reddy said issues concerning nation-building and the future of young people should be considered beyond political and electoral considerations. He expressed disappointment over the denial of permission but said he would respect the Centre’s decision and return to Hyderabad from London.
Despite the cancellation of his US visit, Reddy has instructed the officials accompanying the delegation to continue the planned US engagements and pursue the proposed Memorandums of Understanding and partnership agreements with leading educational institutions. Institutions mentioned in connection with the planned engagements include Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Northeastern University and Virginia Tech.
In the UK, Reddy is scheduled to hold meetings with representatives of Oxford, Cambridge, the London School of Economics, London Business School and the University of London. He will also engage with sports organisations and skill-development institutions to explore partnerships with Telangana.
The Chief Minister has reiterated his goal of developing Hyderabad into a global knowledge hub by attracting leading international education and skills institutions and expanding opportunities for students and young professionals in the city.
