అమెరికా రాజకీయాల్లో తెలుగు మూలాలున్న న్యాయవాది సరిత కోమటిరెడ్డి పేరు ఇప్పుడు ప్రముఖంగా వినిపిస్తోంది. న్యూయార్క్ అటార్నీ జనరల్ పదవికి రిపబ్లికన్ పార్టీ అభ్యర్థిగా బరిలో నిలిచిన సరితకు అమెరికా అధ్యక్షుడు డొనాల్డ్ ట్రంప్ బహిరంగ మద్దతు ప్రకటించారు.
వచ్చే నవంబర్లో జరిగే ఎన్నికల్లో సరిత కోమటిరెడ్డి, ప్రస్తుత న్యూయార్క్ అటార్నీ జనరల్, డెమొక్రటిక్ పార్టీ అభ్యర్థి లెటిటియా జేమ్స్తో పోటీ చేయనున్నారు. సరితను ప్రశంసించిన ట్రంప్.. ఆమె నాయకత్వంలో న్యాయవ్యవస్థ బలోపేతం అవుతుందని, ఆర్థిక వ్యవస్థ అభివృద్ధికి కృషి చేస్తారని, అమెరికా రాజ్యాంగాన్ని రక్షించగల సామర్థ్యం ఆమెకు ఉందని పేర్కొన్నారు.
తెలంగాణ మూలాలు
సరిత కోమటిరెడ్డి తల్లిదండ్రులు తెలంగాణలోని నల్గొండ జిల్లాకు చెందినవారు. ఆమె తండ్రి హనుమంత్ రెడ్డి కార్డియాలజిస్ట్ కాగా, తల్లి గీతా రెడ్డి రుమటాలజిస్ట్. 1980లో ఈ దంపతులు అమెరికాలో స్థిరపడ్డారు. బ్రూక్లిన్లో జన్మించిన సరిత, తల్లిదండ్రుల ఉద్యోగరీత్యా మిస్సౌరీలో పెరిగారు.
సరిత హార్వర్డ్ కాలేజ్, హార్వర్డ్ లా స్కూల్లో విద్యాభ్యాసం పూర్తి చేశారు. అనంతరం అమెరికా కోర్ట్ ఆఫ్ అప్పీల్స్లో లా క్లర్క్గా పనిచేశారు. కొలంబియా లా స్కూల్లో బోధించిన అనుభవం కూడా ఆమెకు ఉంది.
ఉగ్రవాదం, సైబర్ నేరాల కేసుల్లో అనుభవం
ఫెడరల్ ప్రాసిక్యూటర్గా పనిచేసిన సమయంలో సరిత పలు కీలక కేసులను విచారించారు. అల్ఖైదా, ఐసిస్కు సంబంధించిన ఉగ్రవాద కేసులతో పాటు డ్రగ్ కార్టెల్స్, సైబర్ నేరాలు, విదేశీ అవినీతి, మనీలాండరింగ్, మోసం వంటి కేసుల్లో ఆమె పనిచేశారు.
అమెరికా డ్రగ్ ఎన్ఫోర్స్మెంట్ అడ్మినిస్ట్రేషన్లో చీఫ్ ఆఫ్ స్టాఫ్గా కూడా ఆమె బాధ్యతలు నిర్వహించారు. ప్రస్తుతం హోల్జ్మన్ వోగెల్ అనే న్యాయ సంస్థలో భాగస్వామిగా ఉన్నారు.
న్యూయార్క్ అటార్నీ జనరల్ రేసులో సరిత
న్యూయార్క్ అటార్నీ జనరల్ పదవికి రిపబ్లికన్ పార్టీ నామినేషన్ పొందిన సరిత కోమటిరెడ్డి ఈ పదవికి పోటీ చేస్తున్న తొలి తెలుగు మూలాలున్న అభ్యర్థిగా నిలిచారు. ట్రంప్ బహిరంగ మద్దతు ప్రకటించడంతో న్యూయార్క్ రాజకీయాల్లో ఆమె పోటీపై ఆసక్తి మరింత పెరిగింది.

Telugu-Origin Lawyer Sarita Komatireddy Gets Trump’s Backing in New York Attorney General Race
Telugu-origin lawyer Sarita Komatireddy has emerged as a prominent name in US politics after receiving public backing from US President Donald Trump. Komatireddy is the Republican candidate for New York Attorney General and is set to contest the November election.
Sarita is expected to face Democratic candidate and incumbent New York Attorney General Letitia James. Trump has praised Sarita, saying she has the ability to strengthen the justice system, support economic development and defend the US Constitution.
Telangana Roots
Sarita Komatireddy’s parents are from Nalgonda district in Telangana. Her father, Hanumanth Reddy, is a cardiologist, while her mother, Geetha Reddy, is a rheumatologist. The couple moved to the United States in 1980.
Sarita was born in Brooklyn and grew up in Missouri, where her parents lived for professional reasons. She studied at Harvard College and Harvard Law School and later worked as a law clerk at the US Court of Appeals. She also has teaching experience at Columbia Law School.
Experience in Major Federal Cases
Sarita’s career gained prominence during her time as a federal prosecutor. She worked on cases involving Al-Qaeda and ISIS-related terrorism, Mexican drug cartels, cybercrime, foreign corruption, money laundering and fraud.
She also served as Chief of Staff at the US Drug Enforcement Administration. She is currently a partner at the law firm Holtzman Vogel.
New York Attorney General Race
Komatireddy secured the Republican nomination for New York Attorney General, becoming the first Telugu-origin candidate to contest the position. Trump’s endorsement has added further attention to her campaign as she prepares for the election against Letitia James.
