యునెస్కో ప్రపంచ వారసత్వ ప్రదేశమైన రామప్ప దేవాలయం గర్భగుడిలోని ప్రాచీన ‘సోమసూత్రం’ను భారత పురావస్తు శాఖ హైదరాబాద్ బృందం విజయవంతంగా పునరుద్ధరించింది.

అభిషేక జలాలు బయటకు వెళ్లేందుకు ఉపయోగించే ప్రాచీన మార్గమైన సోమసూత్రంలో పేరుకుపోయిన పూడికను శాస్త్రీయ పద్ధతుల్లో తొలగించారు. పురాతన నిర్మాణానికి ఎలాంటి నష్టం కలగకుండా పునరుద్ధరణ పనులను చేపట్టారు.

ఈ ప్రక్రియలో త్రిమితీయ మ్యాపింగ్, ఎండోస్కోపిక్ కెమెరాలు, సాఫ్ట్-డ్రిల్లింగ్ వంటి ఆధునిక సాంకేతిక పద్ధతులను వినియోగించారు. వీటి సహాయంతో నిర్మాణ పరిస్థితిని పరిశీలిస్తూ, సున్నితమైన పురాతన కట్టడాన్ని కాపాడే విధంగా పూడికను తొలగించారు.

సోమసూత్రం పునరుద్ధరణతో రామప్ప ఆలయ గర్భగుడిలో అభిషేక జలాల ప్రవాహానికి ఉన్న అడ్డంకి తొలగింది. ఇకపై భక్తులు ఆగమశాస్త్రం ప్రకారం ఎలాంటి ఆటంకం లేకుండా అభిషేకాలు నిర్వహించుకునే అవకాశం ఏర్పడింది.

రామప్ప దేవాలయంలోని ప్రాచీన నిర్మాణ అంశాలను ఆధునిక శాస్త్రీయ పద్ధతులతో సంరక్షించడంలో ఈ పునరుద్ధరణ కీలక ముందడుగుగా నిలిచింది.

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) Hyderabad team has successfully restored the ancient ‘Somasutram’ inside the sanctum sanctorum of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Ramappa Temple in Telangana.

The Somasutram is the traditional channel through which water used during ritual abhishekam is carried out from the sanctum. Accumulated debris blocking the ancient channel was removed using scientific restoration techniques without causing damage to the historic structure.

The restoration process involved advanced methods including 3D mapping, endoscopic cameras and soft drilling. These techniques enabled the team to examine and clear the blocked passage while taking precautions to protect the fragile ancient construction.

With the restoration of the Somasutram, the obstruction in the flow of abhishekam water from the sanctum has been cleared. Devotees can now perform abhishekam rituals in accordance with Agama traditions without the earlier obstruction.

The restoration marks an important step in the scientific conservation of the ancient architectural features of the Ramappa Temple.
