భారత్లో ఫ్లెక్స్ ఫ్యూయెల్ వాహనాల వినియోగాన్ని ప్రోత్సహించే దిశగా కేంద్ర ప్రభుత్వం మరో కీలక అడుగు వేసింది. ఫ్లెక్స్ ఫ్యూయెల్ కార్లు, ద్విచక్ర వాహనాల కోసం ప్రత్యేకంగా రూపొందించిన ఈ85 (E85) ఇంధనాన్ని కేంద్ర పెట్రోలియం శాఖ మార్కెట్లోకి విడుదల చేసింది.
ప్రపంచ పర్యావరణ దినోత్సవం సందర్భంగా కేంద్ర పెట్రోలియం మరియు సహజ వాయువు శాఖ మంత్రి హర్దీప్ సింగ్ పురీ ఈ85 ఇంధనాన్ని అధికారికంగా ప్రారంభించారు. ప్రస్తుతం దేశవ్యాప్తంగా 48 పెట్రోల్ బంకుల్లో తొలి దశలో ఈ ఇంధనం అందుబాటులోకి తీసుకువచ్చారు.

ఇటీవల దేశంలో తొలి ఫ్లెక్స్ ఫ్యూయెల్ కారు నమూనాగా మారుతి సుజుకి వ్యాగన్ ఆర్ ఫ్లెక్స్ ఫ్యూయెల్ వెర్షన్ను పరిచయం చేసింది. అలాగే హీరో మోటోకార్ప్ స్ప్లెండర్ ప్లస్, హెచ్ఎఫ్ డీలక్స్ ఫ్లెక్స్ ఫ్యూయెల్ మోడళ్లను మార్కెట్లోకి తీసుకొచ్చింది.
ఈ85 ఇంధనం సాధారణ పెట్రోల్ కంటే లీటరుకు సుమారు రూ.20 వరకు తక్కువ ధరలో లభించనున్నట్లు కేంద్ర ప్రభుత్వం తెలిపింది. దీంతో వాహనదారుల ఇంధన వ్యయం తగ్గే అవకాశం ఉంది.
చమురు దిగుమతులపై ఆధారపడటాన్ని తగ్గించడం, దేశీయంగా ఉత్పత్తి అయ్యే ఇథనాల్ వినియోగాన్ని పెంచడం, కార్బన్ ఉద్గారాలను తగ్గించడం ఈ కార్యక్రమం ప్రధాన లక్ష్యాలని కేంద్ర ప్రభుత్వం వెల్లడించింది.
ఈ ఏడాది చివరి నాటికి 500 పెట్రోల్ బంకుల్లో, 2027 డిసెంబర్ నాటికి 5,000 పెట్రోల్ బంకుల్లో ఈ85 ఇంధనాన్ని అందుబాటులోకి తీసుకురావాలని లక్ష్యంగా పెట్టుకున్నట్లు అధికారులు తెలిపారు.

India has launched E85 fuel to support the adoption of flex-fuel vehicles and reduce dependence on imported crude oil. The new fuel was officially introduced by Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri as part of the country’s clean energy and ethanol-blending initiatives.
E85 fuel contains 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent petrol. It is designed specifically for flex-fuel vehicles capable of operating on higher ethanol blends. Standard petrol vehicles are not compatible with E85 fuel unless specifically engineered for such blends.
The launch comes as automobile manufacturers expand their flex-fuel vehicle portfolios. Maruti Suzuki recently showcased its flex-fuel WagonR, while Hero MotoCorp has introduced flex-fuel versions of the Splendor Plus and HF Deluxe motorcycles.
According to the government, E85 fuel is expected to be available at around ₹20 per litre less than conventional petrol, potentially reducing fuel expenses for consumers using compatible vehicles.
The initiative is aimed at lowering India’s crude oil import bill, increasing domestic ethanol consumption, and reducing carbon emissions from the transport sector.
In the first phase, E85 fuel has been introduced at 48 fuel stations across the country. The government plans to expand availability to 500 fuel stations by the end of this year and 5,000 stations by December 2027.
