Hyderabad water supply shutdown rumours circulating on social media have been rejected by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB). The Board clarified that it had not issued the viral message claiming that reservoirs would dry up by the end of November and drinking water supply to the city would be stopped.
Messages circulating on WhatsApp and other social media platforms claim that the El Niño effect and a possible drought could lead to severe water shortages in Hyderabad. Some messages further allege that reservoirs will run dry by late November and that water supply will be restricted or discontinued.
Responding to the claims, HMWSSB stated that the message was not issued by the Board. It also clarified that the information circulated in the message about reservoir storage levels and water supply conditions was not official.
The Board appealed to residents not to believe or forward unverified messages circulated in its name. People were advised to rely only on official HMWSSB announcements and communication channels for updates about drinking water supply and water conservation.
HMWSSB also urged residents to use water responsibly and avoid wastage. Residents should not assume that Hyderabad’s drinking water supply will be stopped based solely on the viral message
