మే 5 అర్ధరాత్రి ఎలాంటి భద్రతా సిబ్బంది లేకుండా సాధారణ మహిళలా బస్టాండ్ వద్ద బస్సు కోసం వేచి ఉన్న సుమతిని సుమారు 40 మంది యువకులు చుట్టుముట్టి వేధించినట్లు సమాచారం. అసభ్యకర ప్రశ్నలు అడుగుతూ ఇబ్బందులకు గురిచేసిన ఘటనను ఆమె స్వయంగా గమనించారు.
రాత్రి 12 గంటల నుంచి తెల్లవారుజామున 3 గంటల వరకు అక్కడ పరిస్థితులను పరిశీలించిన సీపీ సుమతి.. ఆ ప్రాంతంలో పెట్రోలింగ్ పోలీసులు కనిపించకపోవడంపై ఆగ్రహం వ్యక్తం చేసినట్లు తెలిసింది. వేధింపులకు పాల్పడిన వారిలో ఎక్కువ మంది విద్యార్థులే ఉండగా, కొందరు మద్యం మరియు గంజాయి మత్తులో ఉన్నట్లు గుర్తించారు.
చివరికి ఉదయం 3:30 గంటల సమయంలో బీట్ కానిస్టేబుల్ అక్కడికి చేరుకోగా యువకులు వెళ్లిపోవడానికి ప్రయత్నించారు. అనంతరం వారిని అదుపులోకి తీసుకుని కౌన్సిలింగ్ నిర్వహించినట్లు సమాచారం.
దిల్సుఖ్నగర్ ప్రాంతంలో మహిళల భద్రతపై వరుస ఫిర్యాదులు రావడంతో మూడు రోజులుగా సుమతి స్వయంగా నిఘా కొనసాగించినట్లు పోలీసు వర్గాలు తెలిపాయి. ముఖ్యంగా కోచింగ్ సెంటర్లు, ప్రైవేట్ హాస్టల్స్, విద్యార్థుల నివాసాలు అధికంగా ఉండటంతో రాత్రి వేళల్లో యువకుల సంచారం పెరుగుతోందని అధికారులు గుర్తించారు.
మహిళల భద్రత కోసం హైదరాబాద్ పోలీస్ శాఖ మరింత కఠిన చర్యలు తీసుకునే అవకాశముందని అధికారులు సంకేతాలు ఇస్తున్నారు.

A late-night secret operation conducted by Hyderabad Women Police Commissioner Sumathi at the Dilsukhnagar bus stand has sparked major discussion over women’s safety in the city. On the very first day after assuming charge, the Commissioner reportedly entered the field alone to assess the real situation faced by women during night hours.
According to reports, Sumathi visited the Dilsukhnagar bus stand around midnight on May 5 without official security and stood like an ordinary woman waiting for a bus. Unaware of her identity, nearly 40 youths allegedly surrounded and harassed her with inappropriate questions and disturbing behavior.
The operation continued from midnight until around 3 am, during which the Commissioner reportedly observed the absence of effective police patrolling in the busy area. Officials said many of the youths involved were students, while some were allegedly under the influence of alcohol and ganja.
A beat constable reportedly arrived only around 3:30 am, after which the youths attempted to leave the area. Police later detained them briefly and conducted counselling before releasing them.
Sources said Commissioner Sumathi had been monitoring the Dilsukhnagar area for the past three days following repeated complaints regarding harassment and lack of women’s safety near the bus stand and hostel zones.
Police officials identified that the presence of coaching centres, private hostels, and student accommodations in the area has increased late-night youth movement, leading to repeated nuisance complaints from local residents.
The incident is expected to push Hyderabad Police toward stricter night patrolling and stronger women safety enforcement measures in sensitive public areas across the city.
