Union Home Minister Amit Shah has hailed the New Delhi Declaration 2026 adopted at the 18th BRICS Summit, describing it as a historic affirmation of India’s growing leadership on the global stage under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In a post on X, Shah praised the declaration for being rooted in India’s civilisational values of care, compassion and collective welfare. He said the declaration advances the vision of a more inclusive and representative global order while giving a stronger voice to the Global South.
Shah described the adoption of the declaration as a proud moment for every Indian and congratulated the people of India on what he termed a significant achievement in global diplomacy.
BRICS member countries unanimously adopted the New Delhi Declaration on September 12 at the summit in New Delhi. The declaration reflects India’s 2026 BRICS chairship priorities of resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability.
The declaration calls for reforms to make global governance more just, equitable, representative and responsive to contemporary realities. It also stresses greater participation and representation for emerging markets and developing countries in global decision-making structures, strengthening the voice of the Global South
