ఆధార్ కార్డుల జారీ విషయంలో అస్సాం ప్రభుత్వం కీలక నిర్ణయం తీసుకుంది. రాష్ట్రంలో 18 ఏళ్లు దాటిన వ్యక్తులకు ఇకపై ఆధార్ కార్డులు జారీ చేయబోమని అస్సాం కేబినెట్ ప్రకటించింది. అక్రమ వలసలను అరికట్టే చర్యల్లో భాగంగా ఈ నిర్ణయం తీసుకున్నట్లు ముఖ్యమంత్రి హిమంత బిస్వా శర్మ వెల్లడించారు.
గువాహటిలో జరిగిన కేబినెట్ సమావేశం అనంతరం మీడియాతో మాట్లాడిన సీఎం హిమంత బిస్వా శర్మ, 18 ఏళ్లు పైబడిన వారికి ఆధార్ జారీ ప్రక్రియను కఠినతరం చేస్తున్నట్లు తెలిపారు. రాష్ట్రంలో కొన్ని జిల్లాల్లో ఆధార్ నమోదు శాతం 100 శాతం దాటడం అధికారులను అప్రమత్తం చేసిందన్నారు.
అక్రమంగా బంగ్లాదేశ్ నుంచి వచ్చిన వ్యక్తులు ఆధార్ కార్డులు పొందకుండా నిరోధించేందుకు ఈ చర్యలు చేపట్టినట్లు ప్రభుత్వం స్పష్టం చేసింది. ప్రస్తుతం ప్రత్యేక వర్గాలకు కొన్ని మినహాయింపులు ఇచ్చినప్పటికీ, భవిష్యత్తులో మరింత కఠిన నిబంధనలు అమల్లోకి తీసుకురానున్నట్లు తెలిపింది.
అస్సాంలోని ఎస్టీ, ఎస్సీ వర్గాలు మరియు తేయాకు తోటల కార్మికులకు 2027 మార్చి వరకు ఆధార్ నమోదు అవకాశాన్ని కల్పించారు. అయితే ఆధార్ కోసం దరఖాస్తు చేసిన వారి వివరాలను జిల్లా కమిషనర్ పరిశీలించి రాష్ట్ర ప్రభుత్వానికి నివేదించాల్సి ఉంటుంది. ఆ తర్వాతే అర్హతపై నిర్ణయం తీసుకోనున్నారు.

The Assam government has announced a major policy decision regarding Aadhaar card issuance, stating that individuals above the age of 18 will no longer be eligible for new Aadhaar enrolment in the state under the revised verification framework.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the decision following a state cabinet meeting, saying the move is aimed at preventing illegal immigrants from obtaining Aadhaar cards and strengthening identity verification procedures.
According to the Chief Minister, authorities observed that Aadhaar enrolment in some districts had crossed expected population levels, prompting concerns about possible misuse of the system. The government believes stricter scrutiny is necessary to prevent undocumented migrants from securing official identity documents.
The state has allowed certain relaxations for Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes and tea garden workers until March 2027. Applications from eligible individuals will require verification through district authorities before approval by the state government.
Sarma stated that from April 1, 2027, Aadhaar issuance for individuals above 18 years of age will be completely restricted under the new policy. The Assam government said the decision forms part of broader efforts to address illegal immigration concerns and safeguard the interests of local residents.
