Hyderabad: Electricity consumers in Telangana may face an additional burden on their bills from November 2026 due to true-up charges proposed to be recovered by the power distribution companies.

According to the information provided, the Telangana Electricity Regulatory Commission has approved true-up charges amounting to ₹7,635.22 crore. Of this, the State government is expected to bear ₹2,214.99 crore relating to the agricultural sector, while ₹5,420.23 crore is proposed to be recovered from domestic, commercial and other eligible non-agricultural consumers.

The true-up amounts are linked to additional power-purchase expenditure during 2022-23 and a revenue gap during 2023-24, according to the supplied report.

True-up charges generally represent the adjustment of the difference between previously approved or estimated costs and actual costs incurred by electricity utilities.

The supplied information states that an additional 30 paise per unit would be collected during the first month, followed by 50 paise per unit thereafter, with the recovery continuing for different periods for the two distribution companies.

However, the exact rates, recovery period and applicability should be confirmed against the relevant final TGERC order before publication as a confirmed tariff hike.
