The Central Government has introduced an important requirement for domestic LPG consumers seeking subsidised refills. From October 1, 2026, Biometric Aadhaar Authentication will be mandatory for consumers who want to continue booking domestic LPG refills at the regulated retail selling price with applicable subsidy. Consumers who have already completed the authentication do not need to take any further action. The Indian Express

According to the latest information from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, around 27.43 crore active domestic LPG consumers, or 89.9 per cent, had completed Biometric Aadhaar Authentication as of September 19. The remaining consumers have been advised to complete the process before October 1. The Indian Express

The government says the authentication process is intended to ensure that LPG subsidies reach genuine beneficiaries. It will also help identify duplicate and ineligible connections and prevent subsidised domestic LPG cylinders from being diverted for commercial or industrial use. The Indian Express

Consumers who have not completed the authentication can complete it during LPG delivery, by visiting their distributor’s showroom or through the official mobile application of their respective oil marketing company.
