హైదరాబాద్: దేశవ్యాప్తంగా ఉల్లి ధరలు మరోసారి సామాన్యులను ఆందోళనకు గురిచేస్తున్నాయి. బహిరంగ మార్కెట్లలో ఉల్లి ధరలు కిలోకు రూ.60 నుంచి రూ.70 వరకు పలుకుతున్నాయి. సెప్టెంబర్ 16న దేశవ్యాప్తంగా సగటు చిల్లర ధర కిలోకు రూ.53.92గా నమోదైందని కేంద్ర వినియోగదారుల వ్యవహారాల శాఖ వెల్లడించింది. ఇది నెల క్రితంతో పోలిస్తే 48 శాతం, ఏడాది క్రితంతో పోలిస్తే 94 శాతం అధికం.
హైదరాబాద్లోనూ ఉల్లి ధరలు గణనీయంగా పెరిగాయి. సెప్టెంబర్ 12న తెలంగాణ టుడే కథనం ప్రకారం నగరంలోని రైతుబజార్లలో కిలో ఉల్లి రూ.45 నుంచి రూ.50 మధ్య ఉండగా, వీధి వ్యాపారుల వద్ద రూ.60 వరకు, క్విక్-కామర్స్ ప్లాట్ఫార్మ్లలో రూ.60 నుంచి రూ.70 వరకు ధరలు నమోదయ్యాయి.
ధరలు పెరగడానికి కారణాలేంటి?
ఆగస్టు–సెప్టెంబర్ కాలంలో ఉల్లి ధరల్లో సాధారణంగా కాలానుగుణ పెరుగుదల కనిపిస్తుందని కేంద్ర ప్రభుత్వం చెబుతోంది. పండుగల సమయంలో డిమాండ్ పెరగడం, వాతావరణ పరిస్థితులు, సరఫరా మార్గాల్లో మార్పులు, మార్కెట్లకు పంట రాకలో హెచ్చుతగ్గులు ధరలపై ప్రభావం చూపుతున్నాయి.
అయితే దేశంలో మొత్తం ఉల్లి లభ్యతపై కొరత లేదని కేంద్రం స్పష్టం చేసింది. 2025-26లో ఉల్లి ఉత్పత్తి 307.37 లక్షల మెట్రిక్ టన్నులుగా అంచనా వేయగా, అంతకుముందు ఏడాది 307.67 లక్షల మెట్రిక్ టన్నులుగా ఉంది.
రూ.35కే బఫర్ ఉల్లి
పెరుగుతున్న ధరలను నియంత్రించేందుకు కేంద్ర ప్రభుత్వం ప్రైస్ స్టెబిలైజేషన్ ఫండ్ కింద నిల్వ చేసిన ఉల్లిని దశలవారీగా మార్కెట్లోకి విడుదల చేస్తోంది. 2026-27 కోసం 2 లక్షల మెట్రిక్ టన్నుల రబీ ఉల్లిని బఫర్ కోసం సేకరించాలని లక్ష్యంగా పెట్టుకోగా, ఇప్పటివరకు సుమారు 1.21 లక్షల మెట్రిక్ టన్నులు సేకరించినట్లు కేంద్రం తెలిపింది.
ఎన్సీసీఎఫ్, నాఫెడ్, కేంద్ర భండార్, సఫల్ తదితర కేంద్రాలు, మొబైల్ వ్యాన్ల ద్వారా కిలో ఉల్లిని రూ.35కు విక్రయించే చర్యలు చేపట్టారు. బఫర్ ఉల్లిని ప్రధాన వినియోగ కేంద్రాలకు చేర్చేందుకు రైలు, రోడ్డు రవాణాను కలిపిన హైబ్రిడ్ విధానాన్ని ప్రభుత్వం అమలు చేస్తోంది.
హోల్సేల్ ధరల్లో తగ్గుదల
ధరల పెరుగుదల మధ్య కొంత ఉపశమన సంకేతం కనిపిస్తోంది. గత తొమ్మిది రోజుల్లో హోల్సేల్ మార్కెట్లలో ఉల్లి ధరలు 9 శాతం తగ్గాయని కేంద్ర వినియోగదారుల వ్యవహారాల కార్యదర్శి నిధి ఖరే సెప్టెంబర్ 16న తెలిపారు. ఈ తగ్గుదల ప్రభావం త్వరలో చిల్లర ధరలపై కూడా కనిపించే అవకాశం ఉందని ఆమె పేర్కొన్నారు.
కేంద్రం బఫర్ స్టాక్ విడుదలను కొనసాగిస్తూ ధరలు, మార్కెట్ రాకలు, డిమాండ్ను పర్యవేక్షిస్తోంది. కొత్త పంట మార్కెట్లకు చేరడం, సరఫరా మెరుగుపడటంతో రానున్న రోజుల్లో చిల్లర ధరలు కొంత స్థిరపడే అవకాశం ఉందని అధికారుల అంచనా.

Hyderabad: Onion prices have risen sharply across India, putting additional pressure on household budgets. Retail prices in open markets are currently reaching ₹60 to ₹70 per kg in several places. The all-India average retail price stood at ₹53.92 per kg on September 16, according to the Department of Consumer Affairs. The price was 48 per cent higher than a month earlier and 94 per cent higher than a year earlier.
Hyderabad has also witnessed a significant increase in onion prices. According to a Telangana Today report published on September 12, onions were selling for ₹45 to ₹50 per kg at the city’s Rythu Bazars, around ₹60 at street vendors and ₹60 to ₹70 on quick-commerce platforms.
Why Are Onion Prices Rising?
The Centre has attributed the seasonal rise in onion prices to factors including increased demand during the festive period, weather-related disruptions, supply-chain movements and changing demand patterns. Onion prices generally witness seasonal pressure during August and September.
The government, however, has said that overall onion availability remains adequate. Onion production for 2025-26 has been estimated at 307.37 lakh metric tonnes, compared with 307.67 lakh metric tonnes in the previous year.
Government Selling Buffer Onion at ₹35
To contain price pressures, the Centre has started releasing onions from its Price Stabilisation Fund buffer stock in a calibrated manner. For 2026-27, the government has set a target of procuring two lakh metric tonnes of rabi onions for the buffer, of which around 1.21 lakh metric tonnes had been procured, according to the government.
Onions are being sold at ₹35 per kg through NCCF, NAFED, Kendriya Bhandar and other retail outlets, as well as through mobile vans. The government is using a combination of railway and road transportation to move buffer onions to major consumption centres.
Wholesale Prices Show Some Moderation
There are signs of some moderation in wholesale prices. Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare said on September 16 that wholesale onion prices had declined by 9 per cent over the previous nine days. She said the fall in wholesale prices was expected to have a positive impact on retail rates.
The Centre is continuing to monitor onion prices, arrivals and demand while releasing buffer stocks according to market conditions. A sustained improvement in arrivals and supply is expected to help moderate retail prices in the coming period.
