Warangal & Adilabad Airports Target International Standards
ఢిల్లీ: వరంగల్ (మామునూరు), ఆదిలాబాద్ విమానాశ్రయాలను అంతర్జాతీయ ప్రమాణాలతో అభివృద్ధి చేయాలని తెలంగాణ ప్రభుత్వం కేంద్రాన్ని కోరింది. 2028 జూన్ 2 నాటికి వరంగల్ విమానాశ్రయాన్ని ప్రారంభించాలనే లక్ష్యాన్ని సమావేశంలో వెల్లడించింది. New Delhi: Telangana has urged the Centre to develop the proposed Warangal (Mamnoor) and Adilabad airports to international standards, while targeting the inauguration of Warangal Airport by June 2, 2028.
ఢిల్లీ పర్యటనలో భాగంగా ముఖ్యమంత్రి రేవంత్ రెడ్డి కేంద్ర పౌర విమానయాన శాఖ మంత్రి రామ్ మోహన్ నాయుడుతో సమావేశమై వరంగల్ (మామునూరు), ఆదిలాబాద్ విమానాశ్రయాల అభివృద్ధిపై విస్తృతంగా చర్చించారు. రెండు విమానాశ్రయాలను అంతర్జాతీయ ప్రమాణాలతో అభివృద్ధి చేసి ఉత్తర తెలంగాణ అభివృద్ధికి కీలక కేంద్రాలుగా తీర్చిదిద్దాలని కోరారు.
వరంగల్ విమానాశ్రయం ఉమ్మడి వరంగల్, కరీంనగర్, ఆదిలాబాద్, ఖమ్మం, నల్గొండ జిల్లాలకు ప్రధాన కేంద్రంగా మారుతుందని వివరించారు. రైల్వే, రోడ్డు అనుసంధానం, కాకతీయ మెగా టెక్స్టైల్ పార్క్, కాజీపేట కోచ్ ఫ్యాక్టరీతో పాటు ఇతర పారిశ్రామిక ప్రాజెక్టుల కారణంగా ఈ ప్రాంతానికి విమానాశ్రయం మరింత ఉపయోగపడుతుందని పేర్కొన్నారు.
విమానాశ్రయంలో మెయింటెనెన్స్, రిపేర్ అండ్ ఓవర్హాలింగ్ (MRO), ఎయిర్ కార్గో, హ్యాంగర్ సదుపాయాలతో పాటు విమాన శిక్షణ సంస్థలు (FTO) కూడా ఏర్పాటు చేయాలని విజ్ఞప్తి చేశారు. భూ సేకరణ పూర్తయినందున వెంటనే టెండర్లు పిలిచి నిర్మాణ పనులు ప్రారంభించాలని, 2028 జూన్ 2 నాటికి విమానాశ్రయాన్ని ప్రారంభానికి సిద్ధం చేయాలని కోరారు.
వరంగల్ విమానాశ్రయ డిజైన్ కాకతీయ చరిత్ర, సంస్కృతిని ప్రతిబింబించేలా ఉండాలని ముఖ్యమంత్రి సూచించగా, దీనిపై కేంద్ర మంత్రి సానుకూలంగా స్పందించారు.
ఆదిలాబాద్లో రక్షణ శాఖ విమానాశ్రయంతో పాటు పౌర విమానాశ్రయాన్ని కూడా అభివృద్ధి చేయాలని ప్రతిపాదించారు. అవసరమైన భూమిని రాష్ట్ర ప్రభుత్వం సమకూరుస్తుందని తెలిపారు. వరంగల్ తరహాలోనే ఆదిలాబాద్ విమానాశ్రయంలో కూడా ఎంఆర్వో, ఎయిర్ కార్గో, హ్యాంగర్, విమాన శిక్షణ కేంద్రాలను ఏర్పాటు చేయాలని కోరారు.
హుస్సేన్ సాగర్ నుంచి ప్రకాశం బ్యారేజ్ వరకు సీప్లేన్ సేవలు ప్రారంభించే అవకాశాలపై కూడా సమావేశంలో చర్చ జరిగింది. దీనిపై అవసరమైన ప్రతిపాదనలు పంపాలని కేంద్ర మంత్రి అధికారులను ఆదేశించారు.
సమావేశం అనంతరం మీడియాతో మాట్లాడిన ముఖ్యమంత్రి అభివృద్ధికి రాజకీయాలతో సంబంధం ఉండకూడదని, ఎన్నికల సమయంలో మాత్రమే రాజకీయాలు పరిమితం కావాలని అన్నారు. రాష్ట్ర అభివృద్ధి కోసం అవసరమైన ప్రతి అంశంపై కేంద్రంతో సమన్వయం కొనసాగుతోందని తెలిపారు.
ఈ సందర్భంగా కేంద్ర మంత్రి రామ్ మోహన్ నాయుడు మాట్లాడుతూ, విమానాశ్రయ భూ సేకరణను దేశంలోనే అత్యంత వేగంగా పూర్తి చేసి తెలంగాణ ప్రభుత్వం చరిత్ర సృష్టించిందని అభినందించారు. వరంగల్ విమానాశ్రయ నిర్మాణం కాకతీయ సంస్కృతికి ప్రతిబింబంగా ఉండేలా డిజైన్ రూపొందిస్తామని తెలిపారు.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy met Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu in New Delhi to discuss the development of the proposed Warangal (Mamnoor) and Adilabad airports. The Telangana government requested the Centre to develop both airports to international standards and strengthen aviation infrastructure in northern Telangana.
The Chief Minister said Warangal Airport would serve the combined districts of Warangal, Karimnagar, Adilabad, Khammam and Nalgonda. With strong rail and road connectivity, the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park, Kazipet Coach Factory and upcoming industries, the airport is expected to become a major economic hub.
He requested the Centre to provide Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO), air cargo, hangar facilities and Flight Training Organisations (FTOs) at Warangal Airport. As land acquisition has already been completed, he urged the Centre to invite tenders immediately and complete the airport by June 2, 2028.
The Chief Minister also suggested that the airport’s architectural design should reflect the rich heritage and culture of the Kakatiya dynasty, a proposal that received a positive response from the Union Minister.
For Adilabad, the state proposed the development of a civil airport alongside the existing defence airfield. Telangana assured that the required land would be provided and requested similar facilities, including MRO, air cargo, hangars and flight training centres.
The meeting also discussed the possibility of introducing seaplane services between Hussain Sagar in Hyderabad and Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada. The Union Minister asked officials to submit detailed proposals for further examination.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, the Chief Minister said development should remain above politics and that governments should work together for public welfare. He added that Telangana has been maintaining close coordination with the Centre to resolve issues through dialogue.
Union Minister Ram Mohan Naidu appreciated Telangana for completing land acquisition for the airport project in record time and said the Warangal Airport design would showcase the rich heritage of the Kakatiya civilization.
