Hyderabad: The Telangana Cabinet has announced a major welfare measure for government school teachers by extending the existing breakfast, milk and midday meal programme to teachers, junior college lecturers and other staff working in government educational institutions. Until now, the scheme was available only to students. Around 1.5 lakh teachers, lecturers and support staff across the state are expected to benefit from the decision.

The proposal received Cabinet approval as part of the government’s efforts to strengthen public education. Officials believe that teachers sharing meals with students will also help improve the monitoring of food quality and nutrition standards in schools.
