Lok Sabha Seat Expansion Proposal Sparks Debate in Telangana

లోక్సభ స్థానాల పునర్విభజనపై కేంద్ర ప్రభుత్వం పరిశీలనలో ఉన్న ప్రతిపాదనలతో తెలంగాణ రాజకీయాల్లో కొత్త చర్చ మొదలైంది. రాష్ట్రంలో ప్రస్తుతం ఉన్న 17 లోక్సభ స్థానాలు 26 లేదా 27కి పెరిగే అవకాశమున్నట్టు సమాచారం.

ప్రత్యేకంగా జనాభా అధికంగా ఉన్న గ్రేటర్ హైదరాబాద్, ఉమ్మడి రంగారెడ్డి జిల్లాల్లో కొత్త లోక్సభ నియోజకవర్గాలు ఏర్పడే అవకాశం ఉంది. ఈ ప్రాంతాల్లోనే అదనంగా 3 నుంచి 4 ఎంపీ స్థానాలు వచ్చే అవకాశమని విశ్లేషణలు సూచిస్తున్నాయి.
మహిళలకు 33 శాతం రిజర్వేషన్లు అమలులోకి వస్తే, తెలంగాణ నుంచి కనీసం 9 మంది మహిళలు లోక్సభకు ప్రాతినిధ్యం వహించే అవకాశం ఉంది. ఇది రాష్ట్ర రాజకీయాల్లో కీలక మార్పులకు దారితీయవచ్చని భావిస్తున్నారు.
ఈ ప్రతిపాదనలు ఇంకా అమలులోకి రాలేదు. అయితే అమలైతే రాష్ట్ర రాజకీయ సమీకరణాల్లో గణనీయమైన మార్పులు చోటుచేసుకునే అవకాశం ఉందని నిపుణులు అంచనా వేస్తున్నారు.

The proposed Lok Sabha delimitation and expansion plan under consideration by the central government has triggered fresh political discussion in Telangana. The number of Lok Sabha seats in the state may increase from the current 17 to around 26 or 27.
As part of efforts to improve representation based on population growth, the Centre is considering increasing the total Lok Sabha strength from 550 to nearly 850 seats. This may require amendments to Article 81 of the Constitution.
If implemented, the number of Assembly constituencies in Telangana is also expected to rise. The current 119 seats could increase by about 60, taking the total to nearly 179 constituencies.
Regions with higher population density, especially Greater Hyderabad and the erstwhile Rangareddy district, are likely to see the creation of new parliamentary constituencies. Estimates suggest that 3 to 4 additional Lok Sabha seats may be allocated to these areas.
With the proposed implementation of 33% reservation for women, Telangana could see at least 9 women representing the state in the Lok Sabha. This is expected to bring notable changes in the political landscape.
