వేములవాడ: పెద్దపల్లి జిల్లా మంథని ప్రాంతానికి చెందిన జలంధర్ రెడ్డి డిగ్రీ, ఎల్ఎల్బీ పూర్తి చేశారు. ఆయన భార్య శిరీష బీకాం కంప్యూటర్స్ చదివారు. 2006లో వివాహం అయిన ఈ దంపతులు కొంతకాలం కరీంనగర్లో నివసించారు. జలంధర్ రెడ్డి అడ్వకేట్గా ప్రాక్టీస్ ప్రారంభించి అద్దె ఇంట్లో కాపురం మొదలు పెట్టారు.
కరోనా మహమ్మారి తర్వాత ఆయన ప్రాక్టీస్ దెబ్బతింది. అదే సమయంలో శిరీష అనారోగ్యానికి గురయ్యారు. అనేక ఆస్పత్రుల్లో చికిత్స పొందినప్పటికీ ఆరోగ్యం మెరుగుపడలేదు. సంతానం లేకపోవడం, ఆర్థిక ఇబ్బందులు కలిసి కుటుంబాన్ని తీవ్ర సంక్షోభంలోకి నెట్టాయి.
రెండేళ్ల క్రితం ఈ దంపతులు వేములవాడకు వచ్చి Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy Temple పరిసరాల్లో ఉంటున్నారు. రోజూ గుడి మెట్లను శుభ్రం చేస్తూ అక్కడే జీవనం కొనసాగిస్తున్నారు. ఎవరినీ డబ్బులు అడగకుండా, స్వచ్ఛందంగా ఇస్తే మాత్రమే స్వీకరిస్తామని వారు చెబుతున్నారు.
రాజన్నసిరిసిల్ల జిల్లా కలెక్టర్ గరీమా అగర్వాల్ ఆదేశాల మేరకు ఇటీవల భిక్షాటన చేసేవారికి కౌన్సెలింగ్ నిర్వహించారు. ఈ సందర్భంగా జలంధర్ రెడ్డి దంపతుల పరిస్థితి వెలుగులోకి వచ్చింది. ఉన్నత విద్యావంతులు ఈ స్థితిలో ఉండటం స్థానికులను ఆశ్చర్యానికి గురిచేసింది.
జలంధర్ రెడ్డి మాట్లాడుతూ, కరోనా కారణంగా ప్రాక్టీస్ దెబ్బతిన్నదని, భార్య అనారోగ్యం తీవ్ర ఆర్థిక భారంగా మారిందని తెలిపారు. భార్యకు రాజన్న స్వప్నంలో దర్శనమిచ్చాడని భావించి ఇక్కడికి వచ్చామని చెప్పారు. అధికారులు ఆశ్రమానికి తరలించినప్పటికీ, తిరిగి గుడి మెట్ల వద్దకే వచ్చామని వివరించారు. ప్రభుత్వం ఉపాధి కల్పిస్తే గుడి మెట్లను వదిలి వెళ్లేందుకు సిద్ధమని తెలిపారు.
ఇప్పటి కాలంలో చిన్న కారణాలకే దాంపత్య విభేదాలు చోటుచేసుకుంటున్న తరుణంలో, భార్యకు అండగా నిలిచిన భర్త వైఖరి అక్కడి ప్రజల్లో చర్చకు దారితీసింది.
Vemulawada: Jalandhar Reddy from Manthani in Peddapalli district completed his Degree and LLB, while his wife Shirisha pursued B.Com (Computers). Married in 2006, the couple initially settled in Karimnagar, where Jalandhar Reddy began practicing as an advocate and lived in a rented house.
However, after the COVID-19 pandemic, his legal practice suffered a severe setback. At the same time, Shirisha developed health complications. Despite visiting multiple hospitals, her condition did not significantly improve. With no children and mounting financial burdens, the couple faced a deep personal and economic crisis.
Two years ago, they moved to Vemulawada and have been residing near the Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy Temple. They reportedly clean the temple steps daily and survive on voluntary offerings, without directly seeking alms.
As per the directions of District Collector Garima Agrawal, officials recently conducted counseling for people engaged in begging around the temple premises. During this process, the couple’s background came to light, surprising both officials and locals.
Speaking about his situation, Jalandhar Reddy stated that the pandemic disrupted his profession and his wife’s prolonged illness worsened their financial distress. He said his wife felt spiritually drawn to the temple after a dream, and he later joined her. Though authorities shifted them to a shelter, they returned to the temple steps. He added that they are willing to relocate if the government provides employment support.
Their story has sparked discussion among locals, particularly at a time when many marriages face strain over minor issues.
