A major fire accident destroyed seed paddy worth nearly Rs 20 lakh in Telangana’s Peddapalli district, causing heavy losses to farmers during the peak summer season. The incident was reported from parts of Odela, Kalvasrirampur and Ellanthakunta mandals on Friday.
According to local residents and farmers, the fire is suspected to have started from burning agricultural stalks and spread rapidly due to strong winds and extreme heat conditions. The flames soon engulfed stored seed paddy kept for agricultural use.
Farmers said more than 15 quintals of seed paddy were damaged in the blaze. Villagers and fire personnel rushed to the spot and attempted to control the fire, but dry weather conditions made firefighting operations difficult.
Officials have begun assessing the total extent of crop and storage losses. Authorities are also examining whether compensation can be extended to the affected farmers. Agricultural and revenue officials advised villagers to avoid stubble burning during severe summer weather conditions.
