ఆదిలాబాద్ రిమ్స్ ఆసుపత్రిలోని ప్రత్యేక నవజాత శిశు సంరక్షణ విభాగంలో సోమవారం అర్ధరాత్రి తీవ్ర విషాదం చోటుచేసుకుంది. విద్యుత్ షార్ట్ సర్క్యూట్ కారణంగా ఎయిర్ కండిషనింగ్ యూనిట్లలో పేలుడు సంభవించి పొగ, విషవాయువులు వ్యాపించడంతో ఇద్దరు నవజాత శిశువులు మృతి చెందినట్లు తాజా నివేదికలు వెల్లడించాయి.
తెలంగాణ టుడే ప్రకారం, ఇచ్చోడకు చెందిన సలీం ఐదు రోజుల శిశువు విషవాయువులు పీల్చడంతో ఊపిరాడక అక్కడికక్కడే మృతి చెందింది. మరో శిశువు చికిత్స పొందుతూ మృతి చెందినట్లు అధికారులు తెలిపారు. మరో ఇద్దరు శిశువులు స్పృహ కోల్పోవడంతో పట్టణంలోని వేర్వేరు ప్రైవేట్ ఆసుపత్రులకు తరలించి చికిత్స అందిస్తున్నారు.
ఎయిర్ కండిషనింగ్ యూనిట్లలో జరిగిన పేలుడు అనంతరం ఎస్ఎన్సీయూ మొత్తం దట్టమైన పొగ, విషవాయువులతో నిండిపోయినట్లు అధికారులు తెలిపారు. రాత్రి విధుల్లో ఉన్న సిబ్బంది వెంటనే విద్యుత్ సరఫరాను నిలిపివేసి ఇతర శిశువులను సమీప వార్డులకు తరలించారు.
ప్రమాదం జరిగిన సమయంలో ఎస్ఎన్సీయూలో సుమారు 30 మంది శిశువులు ఇంక్యుబేటర్లలో చికిత్స పొందుతున్నట్లు తెలంగాణ టుడే నివేదించింది.
సమాచారం అందుకున్న జిల్లా కలెక్టర్ రాజర్షి షా రిమ్స్ ఆసుపత్రిని సందర్శించి పరిస్థితిని సమీక్షించారు. శిశువులకు మెరుగైన వైద్యం అందించాలని అధికారులను ఆదేశించడంతో పాటు, ఇలాంటి ఘటనలు మళ్లీ జరగకుండా చర్యలు తీసుకోవాలని సూచించారు. ఎస్పీ అఖిల్ మహాజన్, రిమ్స్ డైరెక్టర్ జైసింగ్ కూడా ఆసుపత్రిని సందర్శించి ఘటనకు గల కారణాలపై వివరాలు సేకరించారు.
అయితే ప్రమాదానికి ఖచ్చితమైన కారణంపై దర్యాప్తు కొనసాగుతోంది. టైమ్స్ ఆఫ్ ఇండియా ప్రకారం, అగ్నిప్రమాదం రాత్రి 11.50 గంటల సమయంలో చోటుచేసుకోగా, 28 మంది నవజాత శిశువులను సురక్షితంగా తరలించారు. పోలీసులు కేసు నమోదు చేసి ఘటనపై దర్యాప్తు చేస్తున్నారు.

A tragic incident occurred at the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) of RIMS Adilabad late Monday night after an electrical short circuit reportedly led to an explosion in air-conditioning units, causing thick smoke and toxic gases to spread through the neonatal care unit.
According to the latest report by Telangana Today, two newborns died in the incident, while two other infants were hospitalised after reportedly inhaling toxic gases. A five-day-old baby belonging to Saleem from Ichoda died from asphyxiation, while another infant died during treatment.
The incident triggered panic inside the neonatal unit. Staff members on night duty immediately switched off the electricity supply and shifted the other newborns to nearby wards, according to officials cited by Telangana Today.
Around 30 infants were reportedly receiving treatment in incubators at the SNCU when the incident occurred. The two infants who lost consciousness were shifted to different private hospitals in Adilabad for further treatment.
Adilabad District Collector Rajarshi Shah visited RIMS after receiving information about the incident and reviewed the situation. He directed officials to ensure better medical care for the affected infants and instructed authorities to take steps to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Superintendent of Police Akhil Mahajan and RIMS Director Jaisingh also visited the hospital and reviewed the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The exact cause of the incident is still under investigation. Times of India reported that the fire broke out around 11.50 pm and that 28 newborns were safely rescued and evacuated. Police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
