The central government has clarified that there is currently no proposal under consideration to make Work From Home mandatory for the IT sector, despite recent discussions following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks on fuel conservation and reducing unnecessary travel.
During his recent visit to Hyderabad, Prime Minister Modi urged citizens to use fuel carefully amid rising global crude oil prices and geopolitical tensions. He suggested reviving certain practices seen during the COVID-19 period, including virtual meetings, online conferences, and remote working arrangements wherever feasible.
The remarks triggered speculation among IT employees about a possible large-scale return to Work From Home policies. However, government officials clarified that no official directive is being planned at this stage. Authorities noted that many IT and IT-enabled services companies have already adopted hybrid work models after the pandemic.
Officials also stated that any policy decision regarding mandatory remote work would fall under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Labour and Employment. Currently, no such formal process is underway.
