ఇటీవల జరిగిన రాష్ట్రాల ఎన్నికల ముందు ఇంధన ధరలు పెంచబోమని ప్రకటించిన కేంద్ర ప్రభుత్వం, ఎన్నికల అనంతరం ధరలను పెంచడం ప్రజల విశ్వాసాన్ని దెబ్బతీసే చర్యగా పేర్కొన్నారు. కేంద్ర ప్రభుత్వం వెంటనే పెంచిన ధరలను వెనక్కి తీసుకోవాలని డిమాండ్ చేశారు.

Political criticism intensified after the Central Government increased petrol and diesel prices, with opposition leaders alleging that the move would severely impact common people and trigger a rise in essential commodity prices across the country.

Critics targeted the Union Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing it of failing to manage the economy effectively. Opposition leaders claimed that small and medium-scale industries have been badly affected while employment opportunities for youth continue to decline.

They further alleged that promises made to double farmers’ incomes remained unfulfilled and pointed to the continuous fall in the value of the Indian rupee over the past several years. Opposition parties argued that citing the Iran–Israel conflict as a reason for increasing fuel prices would place an additional burden on ordinary citizens.

Leaders also accused the Centre of misleading people by assuring before recent elections that fuel prices would not be increased. The sudden hike shortly after the elections, they said, has damaged public trust and created anger among consumers.

The opposition demanded that the Central Government immediately withdraw the petrol and diesel price hike.
