Hyderabad: The Telangana government is examining the possibility of providing better and safer accommodation for employees working in Hyderabad’s IT corridor, according to information available on the proposal.
The areas around Gachibowli, Kondapur, Madhapur, Nanakramguda, Raidurgam, Gopanpally and Gowlidoddi have witnessed strong demand for private hostels and paying-guest accommodation because of their proximity to major IT companies.
A large number of employees from Telangana as well as Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and other states depend on private accommodation while working in Hyderabad’s IT sector.
Concerns have also been raised in some areas over buildings being converted into hostels and the adequacy of safety and accommodation standards. Questions about building safety become particularly important when multi-storeyed accommodation facilities operate on relatively small plots.
Against this backdrop, officials are reportedly examining whether government-run hostel facilities can be developed in suitable locations within or around the IT corridor.
The study is understood to cover possible locations, availability of government land, construction feasibility and the model that could be used for operating and maintaining such facilities.
However, based on the information currently available, there is no official confirmation that the Telangana government has already taken a final decision to construct government-run hostels in the IT corridor. There is also no verified official announcement of an immediate ban or blanket action against private hostels.
A clearer picture is expected after the officials complete their assessment and submit their findings to the government.
