Telangana Govt Takes Over ₹5,000 Cr GHMC Debt to Boost Hyderabad Infrastructure

హైదరాబాద్లోని Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (జీహెచ్ఎంసీ) పై ఉన్న భారీ అప్పుల భారాన్ని తెలంగాణ ప్రభుత్వం స్వీకరించేందుకు కీలక నిర్ణయం తీసుకుంది. దాదాపు ₹5,000 కోట్లకు సమానమైన ఈ అప్పులను ప్రభుత్వం తీసుకోవడం ద్వారా జీహెచ్ఎంసీ ఆర్థిక పరిస్థితి మెరుగుపడనుంది.
ప్రస్తుతం జీహెచ్ఎంసీ వద్ద సుమారు ₹4,800 కోట్ల అప్పులు ఉండగా, ప్రతి నెల దాదాపు ₹180 కోట్లను ఈఎంఐలు మరియు వడ్డీ చెల్లింపుల కోసం ఖర్చు చేస్తోంది. ఈ అప్పులు ప్రధానంగా స్ట్రాటజిక్ రోడ్ డెవలప్మెంట్ ప్రోగ్రామ్ (SRDP), ఫ్లైఓవర్లు, అండర్పాస్లు, వరద నీటి కాలువల నిర్మాణ పనుల కోసం తీసుకున్నవే.
మొదటగా ఈ అప్పులను జీహెచ్ఎంసీ, సైబరాబాద్ మున్సిపల్ కార్పొరేషన్, మల్కాజిగిరి మున్సిపల్ కార్పొరేషన్ల మధ్య పంచాలని ఆలోచించినా, చివరికి Telangana Government మొత్తం భారం స్వీకరించాలని నిర్ణయించింది.
ఈ నిర్ణయం ద్వారా జీహెచ్ఎంసీపై ఉన్న ఆర్థిక ఒత్తిడి తగ్గి, హైదరాబాద్ నగరంలో మౌలిక వసతుల అభివృద్ధి వేగవంతం అవుతుందని అధికారులు తెలిపారు. ఈ అప్పులను ఈ సంవత్సరం చివరి నాటికి పూర్తిగా క్లియర్ చేయాలని ప్రభుత్వం లక్ష్యంగా పెట్టుకుంది.

In a major financial relief measure, the Telangana Government has decided to take over nearly ₹5,000 crore debt of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), significantly easing the civic body’s financial burden.
Currently, GHMC carries a debt of around ₹4,800 crore and spends approximately ₹180 crore every month on loan repayments and interest. These loans were primarily taken for large-scale infrastructure projects, including flyovers, underpasses, and stormwater drainage works under the Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP).
Earlier, there were proposals to distribute the debt among GHMC, Cyberabad Municipal Corporation, and Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation. However, the state government has now decided to absorb the entire liability.
Officials believe this move will strengthen GHMC’s financial position and enable faster execution of urban infrastructure projects in Hyderabad. The government aims to clear the liabilities by the end of the year, ensuring better fiscal stability and improved civic development.
