ప్రభుత్వం ఎట్టి పరిస్థితుల్లోనూ శ్రీశైలం ఎడమ గట్టు కాలువ (SLBC) టన్నెల్ ప్రాజెక్టును పూర్తి చేయాలనే దృఢ సంకల్పంతో ఉందని ముఖ్యమంత్రి రేవంత్ రెడ్డి స్పష్టం చేశారు. He reiterated that despite obstacles, the government is determined to complete the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel, which will benefit lakhs of farmers and households across Telangana.
నేషనల్ జియోఫిజికల్ రీసెర్చ్ ఇనిస్టిట్యూట్ (NGRI) శాస్త్రవేత్తల నేతృత్వంలో అచ్చంపేట మండలం మన్నెవారిపల్లి వద్ద హెలిబోర్న్ ఏరియల్ ఎలక్ట్రోమ్యాగ్నెటిక్ సర్వేను ప్రారంభించిన సందర్భంగా ఆయన మాట్లాడారు. ఈ కార్యక్రమంలో మంత్రులు ఉత్తమ్ కుమార్ రెడ్డి, కోమటిరెడ్డి వేంకట్ రెడ్డి, స్థానిక ఎమ్మెల్యేలతో కలిసి ముఖ్యమంత్రి పాల్గొన్నారు.
ముఖ్యమంత్రి తెలిపారు – “రెండు దశాబ్దాలుగా పెండింగ్లో ఉన్న ఈ ప్రాజెక్టును మా ప్రభుత్వం పునరుద్ధరించింది. మిగిలిన 9.8 కిలోమీటర్ల టన్నెల్ పనుల కోసం ఎన్జీఆర్ఐ శాస్త్రవేత్తలు, టన్నెల్ నిర్మాణ అనుభవం ఉన్న ఆర్మీ అధికారులను కూడా నియమించాం. సర్వే ద్వారా భూగర్భ పరిస్థితులు, రాళ్ల నిర్మాణం, నీటి ప్రవాహాలపై ఖచ్చితమైన సమాచారం లభిస్తుంది,” అని చెప్పారు.
ఈ ప్రాజెక్టు పరిధి మొత్తం టైగర్ రిజర్వ్లో ఉన్నందున పర్యావరణ పరిరక్షణపై ప్రభుత్వం అత్యంత జాగ్రత్తలు తీసుకుంటోందని ఆయన పేర్కొన్నారు. 1983లో ప్రారంభమైన ఈ ప్రాజెక్టు 44 కి.మీ టన్నెల్ నిర్మాణంలో సుమారు 33 కి.మీ పూర్తయినప్పటికీ, గత దశాబ్దంలో పనులు నిలిచిపోయాయని గుర్తుచేశారు.
“దేశంలోనే ఇదొక అతిపెద్ద టన్నెల్ ప్రాజెక్టు. 44 కి.మీ పొడవు ఉన్న ఇలాంటి టన్నెల్ ప్రపంచంలో మరెక్కడా లేదు. ఇది పూర్తయితే గ్రావిటీ ఆధారంగా 30 టీఎంసీల నీటిని 3 లక్షల ఎకరాలకు సాగునీటి కోసం, 30 లక్షల మందికి తాగునీటి కోసం సరఫరా చేయవచ్చు. ప్రస్తుతం ఎఎంఆర్ ప్రాజెక్టు ద్వారా విద్యుత్ చార్జీలకే సంవత్సరానికి 500 కోట్లు వెచ్చిస్తున్నాం. ఈ ప్రాజెక్టు పూర్తయితే విద్యుత్ వ్యయం లేకుండా నీటి సరఫరా సాధ్యమవుతుంది,” అని రేవంత్ రెడ్డి అన్నారు.
కృష్ణా నదిపై ఉన్న బీమా, నెట్టంపాడు, కోయిల్సాగర్ ప్రాజెక్టులు పూర్తి కాకపోవడంతో తెలంగాణకు తగిన నీటి వాటా అందలేదని ఆయన విమర్శించారు. “గత దశాబ్దంలో ఏ ఒక్క ప్రాజెక్టు పూర్తి చేయకపోవడంతో ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ ఇప్పుడు మన వాటాపై అభ్యంతరం చెబుతోంది,” అని పేర్కొన్నారు.
ముఖ్యమంత్రి వెల్లడించారు — “ఎస్ఎల్బీసీ పనులు మళ్లీ ప్రారంభించగానే ప్రమాదం జరిగింది. బాధిత కుటుంబాలను ఆదుకున్నాం. ఇప్పుడు అత్యంత నైపుణ్యం కలిగిన నిపుణులను, భారత సైన్యం అధికారులను కూడా డిప్యుటేషన్పై నియమించాం. భూగర్భ పరిస్థితుల అధ్యయనం తర్వాత, అదనపు వ్యయం లేకుండా, ముందే అంచనా వేసిన నిధులతోనే పనులు పూర్తి చేయనున్నాం,” అని తెలిపారు.
మర్లపాడు, కేశీ తాండా, నక్కలగండి తాండాల నివాసితులకు డిసెంబర్ 31 నాటికి ఆర్ అండ్ ఆర్ ప్యాకేజీలు చెల్లిస్తామని చెప్పారు. “ప్రాజెక్టు పూర్తికాకపోతే ప్రజలు క్షమించరు. ఈ అవకాశాన్ని కోల్పోతే ఇక మళ్లీ సాధ్యం కాదు. ఎన్ని అడ్డంకులొచ్చినా తొలగించుకుంటూ ఈ పనిని పూర్తి చేయడం మనందరి బాధ్యత,” అని ముఖ్యమంత్రి స్పష్టం చేశారు.
The Telangana government is determined to complete the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel project at any cost, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy reaffirmed. He stated that despite any challenges, the government will ensure the project’s completion, which is expected to benefit lakhs of farmers and households across Telangana through gravity-based water supply.
During the launch of the Heliborne Aerial Electromagnetic Survey led by scientists from the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) at Mannevaripalli in Achampet mandal, the Chief Minister addressed the media along with Ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, and local MLAs.
Revanth Reddy said, “This project, pending for over two decades, was revived after our government took charge. For the remaining 9.8 km of tunnel works, we have engaged NGRI scientists and Army engineers experienced in tunnel construction. The ongoing survey will provide detailed data on underground rock formations and water flow patterns at depths of 800–1000 meters, every 2.5 meters.”
He added that as the project area lies within a Tiger Reserve, strict environmental safeguards are being followed. The project, initiated in 1983, aimed to supply 30 TMC of water through gravity flow — for irrigation over 3 lakh acres and drinking water for 30 lakh people. However, after completing about 33 km of the 44 km tunnel, work stalled for over a decade under the previous government.
“This is one of the most advanced and longest tunnel projects in the country — perhaps unmatched globally. Once completed, Telangana will not only gain prestige but also supply water without additional energy costs. Currently, the AMR project alone costs ₹500 crore annually in power charges, and over the last decade, ₹5,000 crore has been spent solely on electricity bills,” the Chief Minister noted.
Revanth Reddy criticized previous governments for neglecting major Krishna River projects like Beema, Nettampadu, and Koilsagar. “Telangana couldn’t utilize its rightful share of Krishna waters because not a single project was completed in the last ten years, allowing Andhra Pradesh to object to our water usage now,” he said.
He recalled that an accident had occurred after SLBC works were revived. “We stood by the affected families. Now, highly skilled experts, including an officer from the Indian Army, have been brought in on deputation. We will complete the remaining works without extra cost, using the earlier approved estimates,” he assured.
The Chief Minister announced that R&R compensation packages for residents of Marlapadu Thanda, Keshi Thanda, and Nakkalagandi Thanda would be paid by December 31. “If we fail to complete this project now, it may never be possible again. The people will not forgive us. We must overcome every obstacle and finish this work responsibly,” he emphasized.
