కాళేశ్వరం అవినీతి అంశంపై సీబీఐ విచారణలో తొలి అడుగు పడింది. సీబీఐ డైరెక్టర్ ప్రవీణ్ సూద్ ఆకస్మికంగా హైదరాబాద్కు వచ్చి అధికారులతో భేటీ కావడం ఈ కేసుకు ప్రాధాన్యతను తెచ్చింది.

హైదరాబాద్లోని కోఠీ సీబీఐ బ్రాంచ్ ఆఫీసులో ప్రవీణ్ సూద్ అధికారులు ప్రత్యేక సమావేశం నిర్వహించారు. కాళేశ్వరం కమిషన్ నివేదిక నేపథ్యంలో ఆయన సందర్శన చర్చనీయాంశమైంది. ఈ ప్రాజెక్టుపై కేంద్రానికి లేఖ రాసిన తెలంగాణ ప్రభుత్వం, కమిషన్ నివేదిక ఆధారంగా సీబీఐ ఎంక్వైరీ జరపాలని కోరింది. కాళేశ్వరం కార్పొరేషన్, అంతర్రాష్ట్ర అంశాలు, ప్రాజెక్టు డిజైన్, క్వాలిటీ లోపాలపై విచారణ జరపాలని సూచించింది. కాంట్రాక్టర్లు, అధికారులు, ప్రైవేట్ కంపెనీలపై కూడా దర్యాప్తు జరగాలని తెలంగాణ సర్కార్ అభ్యర్థించింది.
ప్రవీణ్ సూద్ 1986 బ్యాచ్ కర్ణాటక కేడర్ ఐపీఎస్ అధికారి. ఆయన 2023 మే 25న సీబీఐ డైరెక్టర్గా బాధ్యతలు స్వీకరించారు. సివిల్స్ పరీక్షను మొదటి ప్రయత్నంలోనే విజయవంతంగా పూర్తి చేసిన ఆయన, ఐఐటీ ఢిల్లీలో ఎలక్ట్రికల్ ఇంజనీరింగ్ చదివారు. కర్ణాటక డీజీపీగా, మైసూర్, బెంగళూరులో పోలీస్ కమిషనర్గా, హోంశాఖ ప్రిన్సిపల్ సెక్రటరీగా పలు కీలక హోదాల్లో సేవలందించారు.
విదేశీ అనుభవం కూడా ఆయన కెరీర్లో భాగమైంది. 1999 నుంచి 2002 వరకు మారిషస్ ప్రభుత్వానికి పోలీస్ సలహాదారుగా పనిచేశారు. క్రమశిక్షణ, వినూత్నత, నిజాయితీ గల పోలీస్ అధికారి అని ఆయనకు పేరు ఉంది.
The CBI inquiry into alleged corruption in the Kaleshwaram project has taken its first step as CBI Director Praveen Sood made a sudden visit to Hyderabad and held key meetings with officials.
At the CBI branch office in Koti, Hyderabad, Praveen Sood conducted a special review with senior officials. His visit has gained significance following the report of the Justice Chandraghosh Commission on the Kaleshwaram project. It is known that the Telangana government had written to the Centre, urging a CBI probe based on the commission’s findings.
The state requested investigations into the Kaleshwaram Corporation, inter-state aspects, project design and quality lapses. The letter also highlighted large-scale irregularities, pointing out that construction failures were due to flaws in planning and execution. Telangana urged the CBI to probe public representatives, contractors, officials, and private companies linked to the project.
Who is Praveen Sood?
Praveen Sood, a 1986 batch IPS officer of the Karnataka cadre, took charge as Director of the CBI on May 25, 2023, for a two-year term. He cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination in his first attempt and graduated in Electrical Engineering from IIT Delhi.
Born in 1964 in Himachal Pradesh, he began his career with his first posting in Mysuru in 1989. Known as an innovative and honest officer, he has served in several key positions, including Police Commissioner of Mysuru and Bengaluru, Additional DGP of the Computer Wing, Managing Director of Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation, and Principal Secretary of the Karnataka Home Department.
He also has international experience, having served as Police Advisor to the Government of Mauritius from 1999 to 2002. His leadership and clean track record have made him one of India’s most respected IPS officers.
