The Telangana government is reportedly considering a proposal to distribute essential commodities at subsidised prices through ration shops, in addition to rice, according to the information provided. The proposal aims to reduce the financial burden on households amid concerns over possible El Niño-related rainfall deficits and rising market prices.
The proposed list of commodities includes toor dal, wheat flour, sugar, palm oil, tamarind and chilli powder. The Civil Supplies Department is reportedly working on a plan to distribute these items through the public distribution system at affordable prices.
According to the supplied report, Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy reviewed the department’s preparedness with senior officials at the Telangana Secretariat in Hyderabad. The report states that officials were directed to plan foodgrain stocks sufficient for approximately 14 months to prevent shortages in the event of adverse weather conditions.
The proposed distribution programme is expected to be considered after the required stocks are procured and delivered to warehouses.
However, the report does not establish that the scheme has received Cabinet approval or that an implementation date has been announced. The proposed commodities, subsidy rates and eligibility details therefore require official confirmation before publication as final government decisions.
