Telangana’s Congress government is facing criticism from BRS leaders over the alleged non-utilisation of water available at the Kannepalli Pump House, part of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project. The BRS delegation claimed that around 20,000 cusecs of water was flowing at the pump house and questioned why it was not being lifted for public use.

A delegation of BRS MLAs and party leaders visited the Kannepalli Pump House to highlight what they described as the government’s failure to utilise available water resources. They argued that Hyderabad requires approximately 1,000 cusecs of water daily for its drinking water needs and questioned why the available water was not being used to meet the city’s requirements.

The BRS leaders alleged that the Congress government was reluctant to utilise the Kaleshwaram Project because it was developed during the previous BRS government under former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao. They accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s government of allowing political considerations to influence decisions concerning water utilisation.

However, the reasons for not lifting the water, the current technical status of the pumping infrastructure and the feasibility of supplying this water to Hyderabad have not been independently established from the information provided. The state government’s response to the allegations also remains unverified
