New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has completed 25 years as the head of a government, marking a political journey that began with his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister and continued with his service as Prime Minister.
Addressing the ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp Sabha’ in Delhi, Modi recalled that when he first took oath as Gujarat Chief Minister, he had not imagined that his public life would continue for 25 years.
Modi expressed gratitude to the people of India for their continued support throughout his political journey. He said criticism is an inherent part of public life and that political leaders cannot move forward by constantly focusing on criticism.
The Prime Minister said criticism from political opponents had also contributed to strengthening him during his political journey.
Speaking about India’s long-term goals, Modi expressed confidence that the country would achieve the objective of becoming a developed nation by 2047. He called for confidence among citizens and referred to the slogan “We Can Do It.”
Modi also highlighted goals including achieving self-reliance, strengthening India’s position as a global manufacturing hub and making further advances in the space sector.
He also mentioned the possibility of India hosting the Olympics as one of the country’s ambitious future goals.
On national security, Modi criticised the approach of previous governments towards terrorism and border-related challenges. He said his government had demonstrated India’s capacity to respond firmly whenever the country’s security faced a threat.
