A political communication addressed to the Prime Minister has raised concerns over linking women’s reservation with the delimitation of Lok Sabha constituencies. The leader emphasized that while women’s reservation enjoys widespread support, delimitation based on population raises several concerns.
The letter suggested that implementing women’s quota in state assemblies would be widely accepted across the country. However, using this issue to advance population-based delimitation could yield short-term political benefits but may disadvantage southern and smaller states in the long run.
Highlighting the importance of national interest over party interests, the leader urged consideration of alternative models instead of a simple population-based formula for delimitation.
The communication also called for building a national consensus through all-party discussions before proceeding with such a significant policy decision, stressing the need for a balanced and inclusive approach.
