The globally popular messaging platform WhatsApp is testing a new username feature that allows users to chat without sharing their phone numbers. This feature is currently available only to a limited number of users in the beta version.
Once rolled out widely, users will be able to set a unique username and allow others to find and connect with them using that username instead of a mobile number. This system is similar to the functionality already available on Telegram. The feature is expected to significantly enhance user privacy.
As the feature is still under testing, it has not yet reached all users. The company is planning a phased rollout. Those who want early access can join the beta program. To do this, users need to search for WhatsApp in the Google Play Store and register for the beta program when slots are available.
