వృద్ధాప్యంలో తల్లిదండ్రులను చూసుకోవడం పిల్లల బాధ్యతగా మారేలా ఈ చట్టాన్ని రూపొందించామని ముఖ్యమంత్రి పేర్కొన్నారు. కుటుంబ విలువలు తగ్గిపోతున్న నేపథ్యంలో తల్లిదండ్రుల నిర్లక్ష్యం పెరుగుతోందని, దీనిని నియంత్రించేందుకు ఈ చట్టం అవసరమని చెప్పారు. ఈ బిల్లు ప్రభుత్వ, ప్రైవేటు ఉద్యోగులతో పాటు ప్రజాప్రతినిధులకు కూడా వర్తిస్తుందని స్పష్టం చేశారు.
పిల్లల, మహిళల రక్షణ కోసం దేశంలో ఇప్పటికే అనేక చట్టాలు ఉన్నప్పటికీ, వృద్ధుల సంరక్షణలో ఇంకా లోపాలు ఉన్నాయని సభలో వివరించారు. “Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act 2007” ఉన్నప్పటికీ, అమలు స్థాయిలో సమస్యలు ఉన్నాయని పేర్కొన్నారు.
సమాజంలో తల్లిదండ్రుల పట్ల నిర్లక్ష్యం పెరుగుతున్న ఉదాహరణలను ప్రస్తావిస్తూ, వృద్ధులు చివరి రోజుల్లో కష్టాలు పడకుండా రక్షణ కల్పించడం ప్రభుత్వ బాధ్యత అని అన్నారు. ఈ బిల్లుతో అన్ని సమస్యలు పరిష్కారం కాకపోయినా, వృద్ధులకు న్యాయం జరుగుతుందనే విశ్వాసం కల్పించడమే లక్ష్యమని తెలిపారు.

In the Telangana Assembly held in Hyderabad, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy spoke about the introduction of a new bill aimed at protecting parents in their old age. The “Telangana Employees Accountability and Monitoring of Parental Support Bill – 2026” has been brought forward to ensure security and dignity for elderly parents.
The Chief Minister stated that the bill is designed to make it a legal responsibility for children to care for their parents. He highlighted that weakening family values and increasing neglect of parents in society have made such legislation necessary. The law will apply not only to government and private employees but also to public representatives.
While India already has several laws protecting children and women, gaps remain in ensuring the welfare of elderly citizens. He noted that although the “Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007” exists, its implementation has not been fully effective.
Citing real-life examples of neglect, the Chief Minister emphasized that no parent should suffer in their final years due to lack of support. He clarified that the bill may not solve all issues but aims to instill confidence among elderly parents that justice will be ensured.
He urged all political parties to support the bill unanimously, stating that it reflects a strong social responsibility and will send a positive message across society.
