ఖమ్మం జిల్లాలో టెన్షన్ వాతావరణం నెలకొంది. జిల్లా పరిధిలోని వెలుగుమట్ల ప్రాంతంలో భూదాన్ భూముల్లో ఉన్న ఆక్రమణలపై అధికారులు కూల్చివేత చర్యలు చేపట్టారు. మంగళవారం తెల్లవారుజామున జేసీబీలు, డోజర్లతో భారీ బందోబస్తుతో అక్కడికి చేరుకున్న అధికారులు ఇండ్ల తొలగింపును ప్రారంభించారు. స్థానికులు అడ్డుకునే ప్రయత్నం చేయడంతో సుమారు రెండు వేల మంది పోలీసులు మోహరించబడ్డారు.

రఘునాథపాలెం మండలం వి. వెంకటాయపాలెం సమీపంలోని వెలుగుమట్లలో వందలాది కుటుంబాలు పదేళ్లుగా నివసిస్తున్నట్టు తెలిపారు. తమకు ప్రత్యామ్నాయ గృహాలు కల్పించకుండా ఇండ్లు కూల్చివేయడం అన్యాయమని బాధితులు ఆవేదన వ్యక్తం చేశారు. తాము ఇక్కడే జీవనం సాగిస్తున్నామని, ఒక్కసారిగా ఇండ్లు కూల్చేస్తే ఎక్కడికి వెళ్లాలంటూ అధికారులను ప్రశ్నించారు.

అధికారులు మాత్రం భూదాన్ భూముల్లో ఆక్రమణలు తొలగించడం చట్టబద్ధ ప్రక్రియలో భాగమని పేర్కొన్నారు. కూల్చివేతలకు ముందు బాధితులను పలు ప్రాంతాల్లో ఏర్పాటు చేసిన పునరావాస కేంద్రాలకు తరలించారు. మున్సిపాలిటీ వాహనాల ద్వారా వారి సామాన్లు తరలించే ఏర్పాట్లు చేశారు.

భారీగా పోలీసులు భూదాన్ భూముల్లోకి ప్రవేశించడంతో స్థానికుల్లో ఆందోళన పెరిగింది. రేకుల షెడ్లు, గుడిసెలను జేసీబీలతో తొలగించడంతో కొందరు కన్నీరు మున్నీరయ్యారు. ప్రభుత్వం పక్కా ఇండ్లు నిర్మించి ఇవ్వాలని, లేనిపక్షంలో ఆందోళనకు దిగుతామని బాధితులు హెచ్చరించారు.

The demolition drive in Velugumatla, near V. Venkatayapalem in Raghunathapalem mandal of Khammam district, triggered tension as officials removed alleged encroachments on Bhoodan lands. Arriving early in the morning with JCBs and dozers, authorities began clearing houses amid tight security.

Nearly 2,000 police personnel were deployed after residents attempted to resist the demolition. Families claimed they had been living there for over a decade and questioned the sudden eviction without permanent housing alternatives.

Officials stated that the removal of encroachments on Bhoodan lands was part of a lawful process. Affected families were shifted to designated rehabilitation centres, and their belongings were transported through municipal vehicles.

Residents demanded that the government provide permanent housing and warned of protests if their concerns were not addressed.
