Telugu leader takes oath in UK House of Lords

తెలంగాణకు చెందిన ఉదయ్ నాగరాజు బ్రిటిష్ పార్లమెంట్ ఎగువసభ హౌస్ ఆఫ్ లార్డ్స్‌లో జీవితకాల సభ్యుడిగా ప్రమాణ స్వీకారం చేశారు. ఈ విషయాన్ని హైదరాబాద్ వర్గాలు వెల్లడించాయి.

సిద్దిపేట జిల్లా కోహెడ మండలం శనిగరం గ్రామానికి చెందిన నాగరాజు బుధవారం జరిగిన అధికారిక కార్యక్రమంలో సంప్రదాయ ఎరుపు గౌను ధరించి భగవద్గీతపై ప్రమాణం చేశారు. ఆయన గత 25 సంవత్సరాలుగా బ్రిటన్‌లో ప్రజాసేవ, సామాజిక కార్యక్రమాలలో పాల్గొంటున్నారు.

లేబర్ పార్టీ తరఫున రాజకీయంగా చురుకుగా వ్యవహరించిన నాగరాజును బ్రిటన్ ప్రధాని కీర్ స్టార్మర్ సిఫార్సు మేరకు కింగ్ చార్లెస్-III జీవితకాల పీర్‌గా నియమించారు. ఈ నియామకంతో ఆయనకు హౌస్ ఆఫ్ లార్డ్స్ సభ్యత్వం లభించింది.

ఇకపై ఆయనను “లార్డ్ నాగరాజు ఆఫ్ బ్లూమ్స్‌బరీ”గా పిలుస్తారు. తెలంగాణకు చెందిన వ్యక్తి బ్రిటిష్ పార్లమెంట్ ఎగువసభలో సభ్యుడిగా ప్రమాణ స్వీకారం చేయడం విశేషంగా భావిస్తున్నారు.

Uday Nagaraju, originally from Telangana, has taken oath as a life member of the UK Parliament’s upper chamber, the House of Lords, according to sources in Hyderabad.

Hailing from Shanigaram village in Koheda mandal of Siddipet district, Nagaraju wore the traditional red robe and took oath on the Bhagavad Gita during the ceremony held on Wednesday. He has been serving in the United Kingdom for the past 25 years in various public and community roles.

Nagaraju, who has been associated with the Labour Party, was appointed as a life peer on the recommendation of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and formally approved by King Charles III.

He will henceforth be known as Lord Nagaraju of Bloomsbury. His induction into the House of Lords marks a notable moment for the Telugu community from Telangana.
