న్యూఢిల్లీ/హైదరాబాద్: కాళేశ్వరం ప్రాజెక్టుపై కేంద్ర జలశక్తి మంత్రి సీఆర్ పాటిల్ చేసిన వ్యాఖ్యలపై రాజ్యసభలో తీవ్ర వాగ్వాదం చోటుచేసుకుంది. బీఆర్ఎస్ పార్లమెంటరీ పార్టీ నాయకుడు కేఆర్ సురేష్ రెడ్డి, ప్రాజెక్టుపై చేసిన వ్యాఖ్యలను ఉపసంహరించుకోవాలని లేదా మంత్రి క్షమాపణ చెప్పాలని డిమాండ్ చేశారు. సవరణ చేయకపోతే సభాహక్కుల ఉల్లంఘన నోటీసు ఇస్తామని హెచ్చరించారు.
ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ పునర్వ్యవస్థీకరణ చట్టం–2014 సవరణలపై జరిగిన చర్చ సందర్భంగా ఈ అంశం ప్రస్తావనకు వచ్చింది. కాళేశ్వరం కోసం ఖర్చు చేసిన భారీ మొత్తం వృథా అయిందన్న వ్యాఖ్యలు తప్పుదారి పట్టించేలా ఉన్నాయని సురేష్ రెడ్డి అభ్యంతరం వ్యక్తం చేశారు. తెలంగాణ సాగునీటి, వ్యవసాయ అవసరాలకు ఈ ప్రాజెక్టు కీలకమని ఆయన వాదించారు.

కాళేశ్వరం అంశం తిరిగి జాతీయ స్థాయిలో చర్చకు రావడం తెలంగాణ రాజకీయాల్లో మరోసారి ప్రాధాన్యం సంతరించుకుంది. బీఆర్ఎస్ ఈ వివాదాన్ని తెలంగాణ హక్కులు, కేంద్ర వైఖరి కోణంలో ముందుకు తీసుకెళ్తుండగా, బీజేపీ మాత్రం ప్రాజెక్టు అమలుపై ప్రశ్నలు లేవనెత్తుతోంది. ఈ వ్యవహారంపై పార్లమెంట్లో తదుపరి చర్చలు జరుగే అవకాశముంది.

New Delhi/Hyderabad: A heated exchange broke out in the Rajya Sabha over remarks made on the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, with BRS Parliamentary Party leader KR Suresh Reddy demanding that Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil withdraw his comments or apologise in the House. He also warned that a breach of privilege notice would be moved if the remarks were not corrected.
The issue surfaced during a discussion on amendments to the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014. Suresh Reddy objected to the reported comment that the huge expenditure on the Kaleshwaram project had gone to waste, calling it misleading and inappropriate. He argued that the project had played a major role in Telangana’s irrigation and farm sector.
BRS leaders have also maintained that the project was built without Central financial assistance and served as a lifeline for Telangana. However, the verified reports currently available primarily establish that these claims were made during the parliamentary exchange. Specific claims on Central funding, paddy output rankings, and quantified project impact would require separate verification from official records and data.
Responding in the House, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy defended the criticism and blamed the previous BRS government for structural issues in the project, particularly at the Medigadda barrage.
