ఉచిత బస్సు ప్రయాణం మహిళలకు గౌరవ సూచకం, ఆర్థికంగా భద్రత కల్పిస్తోందని జిల్లా కలెక్టర్ పమేలా సత్పతి అభిప్రాయపడ్డారు.

ఉమెన్ ఎంపవర్‌మెంట్‌కి ఓ మైలురాయి వంటి మహాలక్ష్మి పథకం కింద తెలంగాణ ఆర్టీసీ బస్సుల్లో ఉచిత ప్రయాణం పొందుతున్న మహిళలు ఇప్పటి వరకు 200 కోట్ల సార్లు ప్రయాణించి రూ. 6680 కోట్ల ప్రయాణ ఖర్చును ఆదా చేసుకున్నారు. ఈ నేపథ్యంలో కరీంనగర్ ఆర్టీసీ బస్టాండ్‌లో నిర్వహించిన వేడుకలో జిల్లా కలెక్టర్ పమేలా సత్పతి మాట్లాడుతూ ఇది మహిళలకు లభించిన అసలైన గౌరవమని తెలిపారు.
ఆర్టీసీ ఉచిత ప్రయాణం వల్ల విద్యార్థినులు, చిన్న ఉద్యోగాలు చేసేవారు, రోజువారీ కూలీలు, కూరగాయలు అమ్మే మహిళలకు పెద్ద ఎత్తున ఆర్థిక ప్రయోజనం లభిస్తోందని ఆమె చెప్పారు. ప్రభుత్వం అద్దె బస్సులకు స్వయం సహాయక సంఘాల మహిళలకే యజమాన్య హక్కులు కల్పించిందని పేర్కొన్నారు. దీనివల్ల మహిళలకు నెలకు స్థిర ఆదాయం వస్తోందని, ఇది మహిళల ఆర్థిక సాధికారతకు తోడ్పడుతోందని అన్నారు.
కరీంనగర్ రీజియన్‌లో ఇప్పటివరకు 4 కోట్ల 83 లక్షల మంది మహిళలు ఈ పథకం ద్వారా ప్రయాణించి రూ. 201.82 కోట్ల లబ్ధిని పొందారని కలెక్టర్ వివరించారు.
ఈ సందర్భంగా పోలీస్ కమిషనర్ గౌస్ ఆలం మాట్లాడుతూ, ఆర్టీసీలో మహిళలకు ఉచిత బస్సు సదుపాయం ఆర్థికంగా ఎంతో ప్రయోజనం చేకూర్చిందని అన్నారు. బస్టాండ్లలో మహిళల భద్రత కోసం పోలీస్ కమాండ్ కంట్రోల్ రూమ్ ఏర్పాటు చేసి నిరంతర పర్యవేక్షణ జరుగుతోందన్నారు.
ఈ కార్యక్రమంలో ఆర్టీసీ అధికారులు, విద్యార్థులకు బహుమతుల ప్రదానం, పోలీస్ కమాండ్ కంట్రోల్ రూమ్ పరిశీలన వంటి అంశాలు చోటుచేసుకున్నాయి. అనంతరం జిల్లా కలెక్టర్, పోలీస్ కమిషనర్, ఆర్టీసీ అధికారులు కలెక్టరేట్ వరకు బస్సులో ప్రయాణించారు.

Under the Mahalakshmi scheme, women in Telangana have availed 200 crore free journeys in RTC buses, saving ₹6680 crore in travel expenses. Celebrating this achievement, an event was held at the Karimnagar RTC bus stand, where District Collector Pamela Satpathy stated that this initiative is a true mark of dignity for women.
She said the free bus travel has significantly benefited students, small employees, daily wage workers, and women selling milk and vegetables by providing financial relief. She emphasized that women should utilize these savings for their welfare. The government’s decision to allow Self-Help Group (SHG) women to own and operate rental RTC buses has empowered them economically by ensuring a steady monthly income.
The Collector highlighted that in the Karimnagar region alone, women have made 4.83 crore trips under the scheme, resulting in a financial benefit of ₹201.82 crore.
Commissioner of Police Gous Alam also appreciated the scheme, stating that the free travel facility has proven economically beneficial to women. He added that the police department is extending full cooperation to RTC by setting up a police command control room at the bus stands to ensure safety and prevent incidents.
During the event, prizes were distributed to students who won essay writing and drawing competitions. Officials also inspected the Police Command Control Room at the bus stand. Later, Collector Pamela Satpathy, CP Gous Alam, and RTC officials travelled together from the bus stand to the collectorate in an RTC bus.
Regional Manager B. Raju, Assistant Manager Veeraswamy, and Depot Manager Vijaya Madhuri were also present at the event.
