Delhi: A controversy has been triggered at Indira Gandhi International Airport after BJP leader Kompella Madhavi Latha recited Durga stuti in a women’s prayer room while Muslim women were offering namaz. Videos of the incident went viral, drawing criticism from several quarters.
Opinions on social media remain divided. While some users alleged that the act was intended to provoke or disturb others, others argued that individuals have equal rights to practice their religion in public spaces.
Responding to the criticism, Madhavi Latha stated in an interview that the prayer room at the airport is a public space and not exclusive to any group. She emphasized that India is a secular democracy where everyone has equal rights. She also cited examples of public prayers in flights and religious sites abroad, questioning the selective criticism.
