సినీ నటుడు మంచు మోహన్ బాబుకు బిగ్ షాక్ తగిలింది. తిరుపతిలోని మంచు మోహన్ బాబు ప్రైవేట్ యూనివర్శిటీకి ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ రాష్ట్ర ఉన్నత విద్యా కమిషన్ భారీ జరిమానా విధించింది. 2022-23 నుంచి 2023 సెప్టెంబర్ 30 వరకు విద్యార్థుల నుంచి యూనివర్శిటీ అదనంగా సుమారు రూ.26 కోట్లు ఫీజులుగా వసూలు చేసినట్లు, ఫీజు రీయింబర్స్మెంట్లోనూ అక్రమాలు జరిగాయన్నట్లు విచారణలో తేలింది.
విచారణ అనంతరం ఉన్నత విద్యా కమిషన్ యూనివర్శిటీ యాజమాన్యానికి రూ.15 లక్షల జరిమానా విధించింది. అదనంగా వసూలు చేసిన రూ.26 కోట్లు 15 రోజులలో చెల్లించాలని ఆదేశాలు జారీ చేసింది. గత సంవత్సరం పేరెంట్స్ అసోసియేషన్ నుండి యూనివర్శిటీకి వ్యతిరేకంగా పెద్ద ఎత్తున ఫిర్యాదులు వచ్చినట్లు కమిషన్ వెల్లడించింది.
అయితే, ఈ ఫిర్యాదులు సత్యమని నిర్ధారణ తరువాత, యూనివర్శిటీ అనుమతి, గుర్తింపును రద్దు చేయాలని యూజీసీ, ఏఐసిటీఈ, పీసీఐ, ఐసీఆర్, ఎన్సీఏహెచ్పీ, హెల్త్ కేర్ ప్రొఫెషన్స్ కౌన్సెల్కు సిఫార్సు చేయబడింది. శ్రీ విద్యానికేతన్ 2022లో ప్రైవేట్ యూనివర్శిటీలుగా మారింది, గ్రీన్ఫీల్డ్ కోర్సుల్లో 35% సీట్లు ప్రభుత్వం కింద భర్తీ చేయబడతాయి, అయితే అదనపు ఫీజుల వసూళ్లపై తల్లిదండ్రుల అసోసియేషన్ ఫిర్యాదులు చేసింది.

Actor Mohan Babu has faced a significant setback as the Andhra Pradesh Higher Education Commission has imposed a hefty fine on his private university in Tirupati. Investigation revealed that from 2022-23 until September 30, 2023, the university had collected approximately ₹26 crore in excess fees from students and engaged in irregularities in fee reimbursement.
Following the probe, the Higher Education Commission fined the university management ₹15 lakh and ordered that the ₹26 crore collected in excess fees be refunded within 15 days. Last year, the Parents’ Association had filed numerous complaints against the university, which were also sent to the Chief Minister’s Office. The Commission confirmed that the allegations were true.
Additionally, the Commission has recommended that the university’s recognition and approval be revoked by the government and relevant authorities including UGC, AICTE, PCI, ICR, NCAHCP, and Health Care Professions Council. Sri Vidyaniketan, located in Rangampet, Tirupati district, became a private university in 2022. Previously, 70% of seats were filled under government quota at the engineering college; after transitioning to a private university under greenfield courses, 35% of seats are filled under government quota, with fees regulated by the Higher Education Commission. The Parents’ Association had filed complaints about the additional fees collected.
