తెలంగాణ జాగృతి ఆధ్వర్యంలో ఎంఎల్‌సి కవిత ధర్నా చౌక్ వద్ద 72 గంటల నిరాహార దీక్ష ప్రారంభించారు. “సమాజంలో సగభాగం బీసీలు ఉన్నారు, కానీ వారిని రాజకీయాల్లో తక్కువపేరు చేస్తుండటం అన్యాయమైంది,” అని ఆమె వ్యాఖ్యానించారు. బీఆర్ అంబేడ్కర్, జ్యోతిరావు పూలే, ప్రొఫెసర్ జయశంకర్ విగ్రహాలకు ఆమె నివాళులు అర్పించారు.
ఈ సందర్భంగా మీడియాతో మాట్లాడిన కవిత, తెలంగాణ ప్రభుత్వం బీసీలకు న్యాయం చేయకుండా బీజేపీపై నెపం నెట్టి తప్పించుకుంటోందని విమర్శించారు. కామారెడ్డి డిక్లరేషన్ ప్రకారం బీసీలకు తగిన రాజ్యాధికారం దక్కేలా చర్యలు తీసుకోవాలని కాంగ్రెస్ ప్రభుత్వాన్ని డిమాండ్ చేశారు.
ఆర్థికంగా పక్కాగా నిలదొక్కుకునేందుకు బీసీలకు అవకాశాలు కలగాలన్నారు. స్థానిక సంస్థల ఎన్నికల్లో 42 శాతం రిజర్వేషన్లు తప్పనిసరి అన్నారు. ముస్లింలకు ప్రత్యేకంగా 10 శాతం రిజర్వేషన్ల కోసం పార్లమెంట్‌లో బిల్లు ప్రవేశపెట్టాలని ఆమె కేంద్రాన్ని డిమాండ్ చేశారు.
MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha has asserted that BCs form half the population and therefore deserve half the share in political representation. As part of the campaign by Telangana Jagruthi, Kavitha launched a 72-hour hunger strike at Dharna Chowk in Hyderabad demanding 42% reservations for BCs in local body elections.
Before beginning the protest, she paid floral tributes at the statues of B.R. Ambedkar, Jyotirao Phule, and Professor Jayashankar.
Speaking to the media, Kavitha emphasized, “The Congress government must not ignore the demand to do justice for BCs. Just as stated in the Kamareddy Declaration, BCs must receive rightful political representation. Every community should have its share in governance. We are demanding 42% reservation in local bodies.”
She also criticized the Telangana government, alleging that it is trying to escape responsibility by blaming the BJP. Kavitha further demanded that a separate bill be introduced in Parliament to provide 10% reservations for Muslim minorities.
