Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has called on southern states to strengthen coordination among their police departments to make South India a safer region. He stressed the importance of technology, effective policing and cross-state information sharing in preventing crime.
The Chief Minister inaugurated the meeting of the Southern Regional Police Coordination Committee (SRPCC) at Hyderabad’s Integrated Command Control Centre (ICCC). He outlined Telangana’s policing initiatives and the state’s technological infrastructure.
Stronger Coordination Between States
Revanth Reddy said individual states cannot effectively eliminate crime by relying solely on their own resources. He called for stronger coordination mechanisms between police headquarters to tackle criminals operating across state borders.
He said Telangana was ready to coordinate its technological infrastructure and Integrated Command Control Centre system with neighbouring states. He also expressed hope that the meeting would lead to constructive discussions and a coordinated action plan to address emerging security challenges.
Focus on Cybercrime and Drug Control
The Chief Minister said police departments must continuously reform their practices to respond to changing patterns of crime. Cybercrime, drug trafficking and traffic management have become major challenges requiring specialised responses.
He highlighted Telangana’s initiatives in cybercrime prevention, drug control and efforts against left-wing extremist violence. He also referred to the role of specialised units, including EAGLE, alongside technology and personnel training.
Hyderabad’s Three Police Commissionerates
Revanth Reddy said Hyderabad’s police administration had been divided into the Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri commissionerates to improve public service delivery and strengthen area-specific policing.
He also referred to specialised initiatives such as HYDRAA for the protection of water bodies and public assets, EAGLE for drug control, and TG-SAFE for strengthening action against food adulteration and improving drug regulation.
Police Welfare and Support for Families
The Chief Minister said government spending on policing should be viewed as an investment in public safety and a better society rather than merely an expense.
He highlighted the establishment of the Young India Police School in Hyderabad to provide quality education to police personnel’s children, including those from different ranks.
He also said the government provides ex-gratia compensation ranging from ₹1 crore to ₹2 crore to the families of police personnel who die in the line of duty, depending on rank and length of service. Other measures include house sites and compassionate appointments for eligible family members.
Senior Police Officials Attend SRPCC Meeting
The meeting was attended by Telangana DGP C.V. Anand and senior police officials from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry and Lakshadweep.
Senior officers heading various Telangana police units and specialised departments also participated. Revanth Reddy expressed confidence that the meeting would strengthen coordination among southern states and help develop a joint approach to crime prevention.
