India and Sri Lanka Deepen Electoral Cooperation After IICDEM 2026 Discussions

న్యూఢిల్లీలోని నిర్వచన్ సదన్లో భారత ప్రధాన ఎన్నికల కమిషనర్, అలాగే ఇంటర్నేషనల్ ఐడియా (International IDEA) సభ్య దేశాల మండలి అధ్యక్షుడు జ్ఞానేశ్ కుమార్ శ్రీలంక హై కమిషనర్ మహిషిణి కొలోన్నేతో సమావేశమయ్యారు. ఇరు దేశాల మధ్య ఎన్నికల నిర్వహణలో సహకారాన్ని మరింత బలోపేతం చేసే అంశాలపై చర్చించారు.

Chief Election Commissioner of India and Chairman of the Council of Member States of International IDEA, Gyanesh Kumar, met Mahishini Colonné, High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to India, at Nirvachan Sadan in New Delhi to discuss expanding cooperation in election management and institutional capacity building.
Highlighting the close relationship between India and Sri Lanka as neighbouring nations, both sides noted that their shared democratic values and longstanding historical ties provide a strong foundation for enhanced electoral cooperation.
The discussions focused on taking forward the agenda agreed upon during IICDEM 2026. Both countries resolved to strengthen collaboration in election management, exchange best practices, and enhance training programmes for election officials to improve the efficiency and credibility of electoral processes.
The meeting reflects the continued commitment of India and Sri Lanka to deepen bilateral engagement and promote democratic governance through stronger cooperation between their election management institutions.
