Pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly has announced plans to expand its contract manufacturing operations in Hyderabad with an investment of approximately ₹9,000 crore. The company’s representatives met Chief Minister Revanth Anumula to confirm the investment and discuss expansion plans.
During the meeting at the Integrated Command Control Center, Eli Lilly President Patrick Johnson, India President Vince Tucker, and other officials met the Chief Minister along with Industries Minister D. Srinivas Babu. The company stated that Hyderabad will serve as the hub for its contract manufacturing operations, aiming to boost employment and industrial growth in Telangana.
The Chief Minister welcomed Eli Lilly’s expansion, highlighting the state government’s support for industries and investments. He noted Hyderabad’s reputation as a pharma hub, with 40% of India’s bulk drugs already produced in the city, and emphasized the contribution of pharma companies during COVID-19, including vaccine production.
Eli Lilly’s operations in Hyderabad are expected to create thousands of jobs for chemists, analytical scientists, quality control experts, management professionals, and engineers. The company, headquartered in the U.S., has a 150-year history in pharmaceutical manufacturing and focuses on drugs for diabetes, obesity, Alzheimer’s, cancer, and immune-related diseases.
Eli Lilly already operates in Gurugram and Bengaluru, and its Global Capability Center in Hyderabad was inaugurated in August this year. The state government reiterated its commitment to supporting pharma companies and providing technical assistance for initiatives like the Genome Valley ATC Center.
Industries Minister D. Srinivas Babu stated that the contract manufacturing expansion would enhance employment opportunities and benefit talented professionals in Telangana. The meeting also included IAS officials Sanjay Kumar, Special Secretary to the Industries Department, and CM Special Secretary Ajit Reddy.
