Droupadi Murmu participated in the ‘Rajaji Utsav’ organised at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Addressing the gathering, she recalled that when C. Rajagopalachari arrived at the then Government House, he placed portraits of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and Mahatma Gandhi in his room.

The President noted that Rajaji’s gesture conveyed a powerful message — although India was formally a Dominion at the time, Swaraj had already been firmly established in the hearts of its people. She described this act as an inspiring example of mental decolonisation.

She further observed that Rajaji’s ideals continue to resonate in the national campaign encouraging citizens to take pride in India’s heritage and eliminate remnants of colonial mindset.

As part of the Rajaji Utsav, an exhibition showcasing the life and contributions of Rajaji will be organised at Rashtrapati Bhavan from February 24 to March 1, 2026.
