ఉత్తర ప్రదేశ్లోని మీరట్ నగరంలో మీరట్ మెట్రో మరియు నమో భారత్ రైలు సేవలను ప్రధాని Narendra Modi ఆదివారం ప్రారంభించారు. దేశంలో ప్రస్తుతం నడుస్తున్న ఇతర మెట్రో రైళ్లతో పోలిస్తే ఇది అత్యంత వేగవంతమైన మెట్రోగా గుర్తింపు పొందింది.
మీరట్ మెట్రో గరిష్ఠ వేగం గంటకు సుమారు 120 కిలోమీటర్లు. దేశంలోని చాలా మెట్రో వ్యవస్థల గరిష్ఠ వేగం సాధారణంగా గంటకు 80-90 కిలోమీటర్ల మధ్యే ఉంటుంది. ఈ వేగం కారణంగా ప్రయాణ సమయం గణనీయంగా తగ్గనుంది.
ప్రధాని శతాబ్దీ నగర్ నమో భారత్ స్టేషన్ను సందర్శించి, రూ.12,390 కోట్ల విలువైన పలు అభివృద్ధి ప్రాజెక్టులను జాతికి అంకితం చేశారు. ప్రారంభించిన మెట్రో సేవలు ఈరోజు సాయంత్రం నుంచి ప్రయాణికులకు అందుబాటులోకి రానున్నాయి.
ఇదే సందర్భంగా ప్రారంభించిన నమో భారత్ రైలు ఢిల్లీ-మీరట్ మధ్య గంటకు 160 కిలోమీటర్ల ఆపరేషనల్ వేగంతో నడుస్తుంది. దీని గరిష్ఠ వేగ సామర్థ్యం గంటకు 180 కిలోమీటర్లు. ఢిల్లీ-మీరట్ నమో భారత్ కారిడార్ మొత్తం 82 కిలోమీటర్ల పొడవున నిర్మించబడింది.
కేంద్ర ప్రభుత్వం చేపట్టిన ప్రాంతీయ రవాణా విస్తరణ ప్రణాళికలో భాగంగా ఈ ప్రాజెక్టులు అమలు చేశారు. ప్రయాణ సమయం తగ్గించడం, ట్రాఫిక్ రద్దీ తగ్గించడం, పర్యావరణానికి అనుకూలమైన రవాణాను ప్రోత్సహించడం ప్రధాన లక్ష్యాలుగా పేర్కొన్నారు.
The Meerut Metro can operate at a top speed of 120 kmph, making it the fastest metro service in the country. In comparison, most metro systems in India operate at speeds between 80 and 90 kmph.
During his visit, the Prime Minister also dedicated projects worth ₹12,390 crore to the nation. The newly launched metro services will be open to the public from this evening.
The Namo Bharat train operating between Delhi and Meerut will run at an operational speed of 160 kmph, with a maximum design speed of 180 kmph. The 82-km-long Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat corridor aims to provide high-speed, high-frequency connectivity between the two cities.
The initiative is part of the Centre’s regional transport expansion programme, aimed at reducing travel time, easing congestion, and promoting sustainable urban mobility.
