Speaking on a programme aired on PTV Sports, Akhtar explained India’s performance with an interesting analogy. He said India’s approach resembles a rich kid in a neighborhood who invites other kids to play cricket but ultimately ensures he wins the game.
Under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav, Team India delivered an impressive performance throughout the tournament. India defeated New Zealand by 96 runs in the final to clinch the T20 World Cup title for a record third time.
India dominated most matches during the tournament. Except for a single loss against South Africa in the Super 8 stage, the team maintained strong control over the competition.
Akhtar also praised the Indian cricket system, highlighting the depth of its talent pool. He said the inclusion of Sanju Samson in the squad was a good decision by head coach Gautam Gambhir.
He added that India winning the World Cup even after the retirement of senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli reflects the strength of the country’s cricket structure.
