Internal Resource Generation (IRG) of Central Universities has shown a significant upward trend in recent years, reflecting improved financial efficiency and institutional strength.
According to recent data, IRG has nearly doubled from around ₹441 crore to approximately ₹878 crore. This increase highlights the growing capacity of universities to generate revenue independently, reducing reliance solely on government funding.
Officials indicate that diversification of income sources such as research projects, consultancy services, and industry collaborations has contributed to this growth. Enhanced financial management practices have also played a key role in boosting internal revenues.
The rise in IRG enables universities to invest in infrastructure development, academic expansion, and student facilities. It also strengthens long-term financial sustainability while complementing government support.
