ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్లోని కూటమి ప్రభుత్వం స్త్రీశక్తి పథకం కింద మహిళలకు ఉచిత ఆర్టీసీ బస్సు ప్రయాణ సౌకర్యాన్ని అందుబాటులోకి తీసుకువచ్చింది. ఈ పథకాన్ని ఆగస్టు 15న సీఎం చంద్రబాబు ప్రారంభించారు. ప్రారంభం నుంచి మహిళలు దీన్ని విస్తృతంగా వినియోగించుకుంటుండటంతో బస్సులు కిక్కిరిసిపోతున్నాయి.
ప్రస్తుతం పల్లెవెలుగు, ఆల్ట్రా పల్లెవెలుగు, ఎక్స్ప్రెస్, సిటీ ఆర్డినరీ, మెట్రో ఎక్స్ప్రెస్ బస్సుల్లో రోజూ 21 లక్షల మంది మహిళలు ఉచితంగా ప్రయాణిస్తున్నారని ఆర్టీసీ ఎండీ ద్వారక తిరుమలరావు తెలిపారు. తొలి వారంలోనే ఒక కోటి మహిళలు ఈ సౌకర్యాన్ని వినియోగించుకున్నారని, వారానికి రూ.41.22 కోట్ల లబ్ధి చేకూరిందని వివరించారు.
రాష్ట్రవ్యాప్తంగా రద్దీ సమస్యను తగ్గించేందుకు త్వరలోనే 1,050 ఎలక్ట్రిక్ బస్సులు, మరో 1,500 సాధారణ బస్సులను సమకూర్చే ప్రయత్నాలు జరుగుతున్నాయి. కొత్త బస్సులు రాగానే మహిళలకు ప్రయాణం మరింత సులభంగా, అందుబాటులో ఉంటుందని అధికారులు తెలిపారు.
ఇక, తిరుమల కొండపైకీ ఈ ఫ్రీ బస్ ప్రయాణం విస్తరించబడింది. అయితే, ఘాట్ రోడ్డు కావడంతో సీటింగ్ సామర్థ్యానికే పరిమితం చేస్తున్నారు. ముఖ్యంగా ఆస్పత్రులకు, పుణ్యక్షేత్రాలకు వెళ్లే వారు, చిరుద్యోగాలు చేసే మహిళలు ఈ పథకాన్ని విస్తృతంగా ఉపయోగించుకుంటున్నారని అధికారులు పేర్కొన్నారు.

The coalition government in Andhra Pradesh has introduced free RTC bus travel for women under the Stree Shakti scheme. Chief Minister Chandrababu launched the scheme on August 15. Since its inception, women have been using it extensively, leading to overcrowding on buses.
Currently, about 21 lakh women are traveling daily for free in Pallevelugu, Ultra Pallevelugu, Express, City Ordinary, and Metro Express buses, according to RTC Managing Director Dwaraka Tirumala Rao. He explained that within the first week itself, one crore women used this facility, amounting to benefits worth ₹41.22 crore.
To reduce congestion across the state, the government is preparing to bring in 1,050 electric buses and another 1,500 regular buses soon. Once these new buses are added, women’s travel will become easier and more accessible, officials said.
The free bus service has also been extended to Tirumala. However, due to the ghat road conditions, it is limited only to seating capacity. Officials noted that women heading to hospitals, religious pilgrimages, and small jobs are widely benefiting from this scheme.
